While I am not able to be at the Eugene Show this year I still have a table being tended there by my father. Yesterday some POS passing him or herself off as a human being decided they needed one of the knives on my table by way of a five finger discount. My they rot in H.E.L.L. and cut themselves each time they open it. Anyway the knife is my #5 linerlock. It is the same style of knife shown at the top of this page http://adw.go-gbs.com/linerpics.htm It has a Double stainless fireball blade with two color mokume bolsters and mother of pearl scales. The blade, backstrap and liners are fileworked the thumb stud has been checkered. The liners are titanium and have been anodized gold. There are several knives on the above web page that have fireball blades that can give you an idea of the pattern. If you have any imformation on this knife please email me any info at knifeman@lcturbonet.com or call me at 775-962-5463 / 775-482-6465.

You know Art, I just brought this subject up in the Customs forum and got a real nasty E-mail from a formite that felt I was showing my "cop paranoia" and that it is extremely rare, if ever, to have a knife lifted from a knife show.
YEAH< maybe ten years ago, but as of late it seems that if the opportunity presents itself, some folks have zero control and steal the property of another.

I attended an EXPO for Law Enforcement Officials only. ID was verified in order to get in. There was about 7,000 verified LE officials spending the day with corporate reps, vendors, and distributors. At at 4:00 PM, one of the vendors went bonkers. Seems "someone: lifted a complete radar unit from his table and disappeared into the crowd. About $2,000 down the tubes.

That is why I asked if it was a big problem at a show like BLADE where there are zillions of people. If you figure that there may be 5,000 people looking at any given time, and one percent of those are scumbag thieves, then 500 potential knife-thief's are, or could be standing among us 99% who would not steal a knife if the odds of getting caught were less than zero.

Not only do I hope this guy gets caught, I hope the Big man up in the sky catches him first, causes him to slip and fall on the blade and have it slide squarely up his ARSE. Then he runs into a room full of knifeknuts looking for medical assistance and the knife is immediately identified as the stolen one. STREET JUSTICE, doesn't that fall under the 799th Ammendment?????

May this knife thief get Mad cow Diease...............Ira:(

Art, not that it helps but the jerk got one of the finest pieces at the show. We all hope he should trip and wear it in his chest like a badge of thievery. All the Best. Mike

That sucks Art... If your Dad has the time or someone else with him make sure to have them spread the word and post a color pic if you can generate a decent photo. Most likely if it is some punk they'll try to turn it around at the same show and scat with as much cash as possible. Might have him call the local Pawn Shops as well but if the guy needs dough he'll try to sell it there would be my guess.

Ira, that is suprising as hell about the LEO thing. I guess you have to expect there are good and bad in all groups but whoever did that was either extraordinarily talented or friggin' stupid and lucky.

Best of luck in recovering your blade Art!

Shawn

Sorry to see what happened to you Arthur. something like this really spoils a persons memory of what could have been a really great show.

With any luck this person is as stupid as he/she is dishonest. Then there is a chance that this knife will turn up on the for sale market. I will keep my eyes open and will you know immediately if I come across anything.

This really is Bullsh!t. :(

I have never lost anything of great value, I keep almost all my knives in display cases. I know it will not stop someone with some skill at taking what is not theirs,I lose very little.I also loose sales, folks like to look at the knives and when it is busy you may not get to them in time. It amazes me when the gun dealers lay a bunch of handguns out loose on a table. Most of them now attach them with a cable.Art I am sorry to hear about your loss, you may get lucky and the knife may turn up. A friend had some Marbles knives stolen out of a antique shop, and the A$$ HOLE, tried to sell the dealer his own knives back at a show 100 miles away. There is some justice:barf:

speaking of gunshows was at the austin gun show a few yrs back and some girl accidently sprayed an OC cannister causing much consternation amongst the dealers who were choking from OC/couldnt leave cuz all the guns out on table - they dont allow OC now unless its in a blister pack/etc so it cant be accidently deployed.......

Thieves.....Some are actually honest folks who simply have a moment lapse of conscious thought and do something stupid they regret.
Thieves.....Most are actually scumbags who have no conscious, have no soul, do everything stupid, and have zero regret UNTIL they get caught. Then they are ALL "sorry". Sorry should be the result of a very painful dose of reality. Remember the 799th Ammendment!!!

One scumbag, be it a knifeknut who is reading this thread right now and feeling "guilty" or some punk who has already pawned it for $50.00 has forced knife lover's, sportsmen, and makers to be extra cautious now at knife shows, and be on absolute guard at BLADE. This could really suck depending on what the reaction to it becomes. I hope it is someone who has a heart and soul, is loaded with remorse and is shipping the knife back right now. However, I lost my "Alice in wonderland" outlook long ago and am now cynical as hell. The sad reality is that Art is out a gorgeous knife, we knifeknuts may someday go to shows where every knife is locked in a display case. Is the only way to stop the one-percenters going to be to isolate the things they steal by putting them under locked glass to prevent theft, affecting the 99 percent who will miss out on the whole concept of a show? To touch, feel and caress knives they will never afford to own, and to hold the knives they are about to buy makes the whole purpose of a knife show, the whole purpose of a knife show!!! I sure hope that the 99% that attend BLADE watch out for the 1% that are looking for a quick buck and turn them over to the meanest and largest maker at the show for a demonstartion on forging of a human skull!!!!

And about that LEO thing. Cops can be a strange bunch. Put a pair of handcuffs and a $100 bill on a table and leave the room and allow 7,000 cops to walk through. I can almopst guarantee the handcuffs will be gone, but the $100.00 bill will remain "untouched".

Maybe very few knife whatevers are like that. they view taking a knife from the table of a Maker different from stealing money because they do not see the actual value of the knife. It all boils down to a very bizarre and criminal thought process and the only cure remains STREET JUSTICE no matter who you are. if you steal, you ARE a thief.

Oh, the Radar unit was never recovered, but it also became impossible to use because the "word" spread like wildfire. Maybe we can all do the same with Art's knife and whoever has it will never be able to take it out of the house or ever be able to enjoy it........Again, this reallly SUKS.........Ira:( :(

This topic really is one of my pet peives. I can't stand f****** thieves. Momentary laps or just plain scumbag crap, there is no call for it. I especially get POd about it because if someone asked and had need, I'd damned near give them anything they were needing. I've literally given away my last dollar on more than one occasion and know a lot of folks who have done the same. Now I've never met Art but chances are that if someone wanted one of his knives bad enough, he would probably work out a payment plan with them or something.(That's pure speculation but I'm betting it's true.)
I'll be keeping my eyes out for your knife Art. I check ebay regularly and will do a search each time I go there with your name to see if anything comes up.

BTW. I had never seen your work before but after looking at your webpage, I've got to start saving my pennies. Damned nice knives.
Doc

Thanks for the support everyone. I appreciate you searching Ebay Doc. If I ever get back down San Antonio way again (I was in New Braunfels two years ago helping Devin Thomas instruct basic Damascus at Johnny Stouts hammer in) I'll be sure to look you up.

I too hate thieves, I feel for you buddy.

I have one suspect to add to the list, his name is Pookey even though he hasnt been here lately, I thought I should mention him to you.

I hope it gets returned to you just as how was origanlly.
