Stolen Knives. Keep your eyes open!

Looking over that list of knives actually made me feel a bit sick to my stomach. Insurance dollars could never replace that group of knives. True pieces of Art History have been stolen by some shithead who will probably try to sell them for pennies on the dollar...this is terrible news for everyone in the knife community

These were my thoughts, as well. Genuinely made me nauseous. Horrible and despicable. I very much hope they are returned.

Ken,

I just got an email from Mike. All but three have been recovered. That is great news!

Man, I am sooo happy for Michael. This could have been a living hell, rather than just a nightmare. COOL!!

Glad to hear most were recovered. I HATE thieves. That's not a word I use lightly if you know me.

Dirtbag(s).

So glad to hear that most of the knives have been returned. I do hope the others will return as well, but this is wonderful news.

Chris

Congratulations! I would love to know a little more info and what happened. I'm a sucker for a good crime story.

That's got to be some of the best news I've ever heard! I know I don't have a personal stake in it, but this makes me so happy it's ridiculous:)

Would make me wonder if the person that stole them got nervous when they found out the value and how hard it would be to sale them and returned them or maybe there was a reward of some kind and a so-called friend of the thief's rolled over on them.

Since the 1970s, Pelican cases have been targeted by thieves. The fancier the case, the more likely a good pay off. All of my luggage is fully functional but old and worn...never had it stolen. I buy it in thrift stores to get the "pre-used" effect. :)

OMG- What an awesome bit of news!!!!! I am amazed to hear such a surprising update... This is wonderful!!! :)

I wonder what's happened with the 3 that are still MIA...???

I can sense how much a relief this was to Michael. The overwhelming loss for a week, and then to find that all but three were intact. And maybe those will turn up.

The perp probably sold them for a bit of quick cash in Indianapolis?

The Insurance Company is also saying "Whew! Well, done, SIR!" to the detective(s).

Sleep well, Mike!

Yea.... This is ALMOST the best possible end to the story, to be sure.

On the one hand I'm surprised how it went down; the thief going back to the same airport, in the same cloths, doing the same thing (i.e. stealing), in the VERY same location..... it's just incredibly, mind-numbingly stupid (which; admittedly, is a common trait amongst thieves).
On the other hand I'm not terribly surprised that he got caught, in the knife industry, most of these knives are VERY high profile and one of a kind knives, they're not an easy thing to "move" without people noticing. My thoughts were that the perp would likely have no idea as to the value of the pieces and either A) go online to find out their value and potentially try to sell them and see that the community was abuzz about the theft or B) take them to a pawn shop and the pawn shop owner would, again, not knowing what they were looking at, go to the interwebz to find out and see that these knives were recently stolen. I suspect that the end result would be, inevitably, the thief getting caught one way or the other with as "noticeable" as this inventory was / is, when he goes to sell the pieces. Bottom line, I see the thief getting caught I just didn't expect him to get caught the way he did.
It's for this reason that I posted this on all of the forums that I frequent as well as my facebook.
