I don't have any knives for sale on the internet, so if anyone spots one with this makers mark, I'd appreciate a heads up. I lost 20 - mostly bowies and fighters - from my shop last night.

Thanks

That's awful  Keep an eye on the exchange threads here and on other forums, if possible. I presume you've already contacted your local police. It might be worthwhile to make a call to local pawn shops, gun stores etc as well.

That's so wrong. I travel a lot for work and stop in to pawn shops in 5 states. I'll keep an eye out for them. Did hey have scales yet? If so general material.

Bastards !! I hope you will find the thieves. I will keep a watch out on craigslist. Im down here in MA they may try and sell them down here.

Got my knives back thanks to a couple of honest people who became suspicious of a "good" deal!! They took the time and trouble to track my maker's mark to the alert I posted on another forum and contacted me directly. Even though I don't have my hands on the thief (yet), my faith in humanity is largely restored, and we may have uncovered a new knife maker in the process. Thank you all for your good wishes.

That is awesome !! I figured they were gone for good. Thats was really smart of them to research the mark.

Awsome turn around. I was going to say I make the Ohio shows Friday, would look for .
2 Golf carts were stole here last night ,where I do security. Got lucky and tracked them down till 5 am. this morning..
Now the long wait of the long arm of the law.
Its in the air.

Hey Dick,
Something seems odd about the way this turned out. Maybe I'm just not understanding.

- You had knives stolen from your shop.
- the next day, someone contacts you through your maker's mark.
- you get your knives back but don't know who the thief was.

Did the person who contacted you buy all the knives from the thief?
Where did they turn up(pawn shop, flea market, etc...)?
Is it that the authorities have the thief and you just don't have access to the creep?

I'm getting visions of this good Samaritan asking you to reimburse him the "$60" he paid to get the blades, when the reality is that HE stole them. Just a crazy thought but one that bothers me a bit.

I'm glad you got your blades.

As a cop... Ockham's razor certainly factors into this one. I would figure the thief posing as a good samaritan stole the blades and then checked the web for the makers mark to see what kind of loot they could get. When they discovered the BOLO posted for the mark, they decided better to return them and not look guilty than get caught trying to sell them or just flat out in possession of them...

Glad you got them back though. Burglars suck.

AS A

As a retired cop, I was certainly suspicious of the offer to return my knives, but the couple's story checked out and they gave us a description of the guy that sold them the knives that fits a local ...person. The interesting thing was, when I offered the finder one of the knives that he liked, he asked if I would teach him to make a knife instead. I also have a nice piece of physical evidence which points to the suspect. Hopefully the guys at the PD will round him up in the next couple of days...

I was thinking the same thing after reading that Rick!

But now that I see Dick is a retired cop, I'm sure he would be even more suspect of something being hinky than I would.

I'm glad you got them back, and especially so fast! Several years ago, some POS stole several knives out of my truck, but I only got 1 of them back about a year after the theft. Some punk kid was arrested because he was chasing another kid around the movie theater waving a knife around. Ironically, my knife was on his person, inside the jeweler's box it was in when it was stolen... the knife in his hand was a cheap kitchen knife.

Haha.... Crazy story, Nick. Glad you got your knives back, Dick. About 7 years ago, I had my house broken into when I was at work. I say that, but the guy who did it had a key. He walked in, stole about $1500 worth of factory produced folders and fixed blades and two of my pistols, basically, only stuff he could easily hide on his person without look suspicious as he walked out the front. He then drove around back and tossed a piece of concrete through the back window from the alley to make it look like someone had broken in. Only thing was the hole in the glass was about 20 inches across and in the middle of the pane, so no way he came in that way unless he was a 12 year old and could fly. I lost some good knives that are now really hard to find, but luckily, I hadn't moved into the world of higher end customs.

The sticker is that I know who did it, but could never prove it, and our local PD wasn't that interested in pursuing it. It was the landlord's daughter's looser dope-head boyfriend. He'd been in the house several times to fix appliances, and he had access to keys. He also knew exactly what he wanted and left computers, long guns, game systems, etc untouched. He was also conveniently on his way to Austin by the time I found the break-in. I never saw any of the knives again. They did find one of my pistols in Fort Worth on a felon drug-dealer, but the little custom-handled Walther PPKS hasn't been seen since. It's still on the database, so maybe some day.

Now all the firearms are in the safe (I have a two year old as well) along with a few of Nick's knives and a few watches. I wish I had a large enough safe to put the entire collection there, but I don't have room for it in the closet.

I am glad to hear you got your knives back.

Just a thought;
It is better to assume that someone is honest, and be wrong.
Than to assume they are a thief, and be wrong.

Most people are honest, good people.

Thieves are the scum of the earth in my opinion. Many years ago in another galaxy far far away I used to play in a few bands that no one can remember, and upon returning home from a gig I found 2 guys breaking into my house. 1 got away, 1 did not. After he was, well lets just say subdued my girlfriend at the time rang the cops. upon there arrival I was told by the senior officer that the perp could charge me with assault ( broken elbow ) The cop then tells me it will be ok as he must have fallen down the stairs. Funny thing is I didn't have stairs  Go figure. Bring back the stocks in your local community for those that are caught. Might be a lesson for those who have not been caught.
Cheers Keith
