Stolen package - beware!

So I'm waiting on Auntie to confirm that the tracking number I have is correct, but I'm fairly certain my latest kukri (12" Anil Foxy Folly) was stolen from the front door to my apartment last weekend. The package was delivered on Saturday while I was visiting home, which I figured wouldn't be a problem as there are often packages left at our front door with no issue.

It's a shame, that was a beautiful knife and I was looking forward to adding it to my collection. Lesson learned: watch your mail!

I hope that is not the case! Theft is always a concern where I live. Luckily no one has stolen my HI shipments (yet). Auntie has even delayed shipment for me when I'm out for a couple days on vacation. In the future I'm pretty sure that you can ask the post office to hold your packages. Not as convenient but less likely to get stolen. Good luck - hopefully just a snafu with the tracking number

I ordered a kukri on the 13th which was marked as delivered by USPS tracking on the 15th, but it never showed up. Thefts are pretty unlikely in my neighborhood, so I'm more inclined to believe that the mailman just lost it or sent it to the wrong address. So there's $195 down the toilet.

My tracking number was correct, I'm filing a claim with USPS - there's always a chance of a mix up, we'll see.

Keep me update on FF parcel,

File a claim, and/or discuss with auntie, I am sure she will make it right, or work out something that'll satisfy you.

USPS called today - they said the package was delivered and verified via GPS.

I've notified my neighbors but at this point it's likely that it was just swiped. I have contacted Auntie about filing an insurance claim, but I'm not sure the postal service will cover it as it was stolen after delivery.

Kukri thieves be damned

I filed a claim for mine and it was rejected. I filed an appeal and that's still pending, but I doubt it'll go anywhere.

Beware mail theives I suppose. As I said, the lesson learned is to plan on intercepting your mail immediately.

I see. I guess it depends where you live and the agreement you have with your mailman.
In my area, unless instructed to do so. Delivery staff do not leave packages on the front doors unattended.

Yeah, I am surprised it happened - there are packages left unattended outside my building all the time, often for days, and there's never been a theft that I'm aware of. Perhaps the triangular box was particularly enticing?

I wish the delivery man hadn't just left it there, but again I take responsibility for retreiving my mail.

Package thievery is on a monumental increase across the USA. So many people use Amazon and the like that crooks only have to just drive around to score big. It's a crying shame.

I've heard that some thieves follow the UPS and other delivery trucks and grab packages off people's porches right after the drop.

I'm guessing that if the owner happens to open the front door, the thief will claim that he was delivering the package. Or just run around the corner to a waiting vehicle that probably has the license plate obscured.

We had a fella do just that, happened to see a Fed Ex delivery and took the package 2 minutes after it hit the porch. Little did he know the home owner had a video camera. Also got the car and plate number.

Booked him Dano!

sadly, it could be the usps driver that took the package when you weren't home. unless you signed for it or specificly stated that they should leave that particular item outside your door, the post office should be responsible, don't accept their denial of responsibility, take them to small claims court. fight back or they'll just get worse.

I suppose that could be the case as well - I will file a police report for stolen mail - I don't believe my building has a security camera but perhaps one of my neighbors has one. Even if all I can do is report a theft, at least the cops will be aware of a mail theft in my area.

I think auntie usually chooses 2nd Day Priority shipping, and may or may not use the USPS "Click N Ship" feature, regardless, there is an option for "signature Required", and to expedite delivery I think she chooses to not need a "signature required", so that packages can be left at the destinations, instead of customers having to go to the Post Office if they aren't home when the package arrives.

With all the thefts of packages so prevalent currently, it may be prudent to ask auntie to make packages "signature required" when sending packages. It may be more bothersome to some, but I think we as customers would appreciate the safety of knowing that our packages won't be stolen from off our own porch, doorstep, etc...

Reporting alerts police for crime patterns in area, and watch pawn shops, craigslist, etc. HI khukuri is pretty distinctive item. Or perhaps bust the punk for another crime and find stolen property also.
