Stolen package - beware!

The signature required might be a good option for folks who don't expect to be home when the delivery occurs. Personally I hate it since I have to wait and arrange to sign for it. I usually have mine delivered to work so I get to see them a few hours earlier. I'm not a patient person when it comes to wanting to fondle HI knives.

I think we need to emphasize here also that these mail thefts are in no way Yangdu's fault. If it shows it was delivered she's absolutely done her part. On occasion, her being a one woman show she misses one now and then and forgets to mail. She'll always take care of that and usually add a bonus for her mistake.
If we report the knife was delivered but stolen she'll feel obligated to replace it. That boys and girls is just the kind person she really is. But in my tiny little mind that isn't right.
I know we all feel the same way on that but felt the need to verbalize it or write it down I guess would be more proper.
Will she work to replace it, absolutely. But send her some money.

Thanks Mr. B, that's what I really wanted to say, too early, my brain isn't up yet, and it's still kinda pounding after my night out with the boyz, they felt the need to use my bday as an excuse to party all night as if we were still in our 20's.

this is why Im glad I live in a house with a DOG in my yard
she has deterred more dead beat thieves than I can ever know

Yes, and perhaps I didn't make this clear - the point of this thread is to remind folks to be wary of mail theft and for me to ask for advice from those who have experienced similar situations. This is in no way Auntie's fault, it is not her responsibility to cover the loss of a package stolen after delivery.

Auntie is extremely good to all of her customers and works hard to run HI - I will be happy to purchase a similar knife (got the foxy folly fever!) and I'll probably have it sent to my office.

I'm keeping Auntie posted and am in contact with USPS to file an insurance claim, but at the end of the day these things happen.

This is exactly the reason I have had a PO Box for about 33 Yrs, to prevent things like this. Also, some time back USPS started a signup and you use a shipping address for UPS, Fed-Ex that will deliver to your local PO. It may delay getting it by a day, but I Love it.

Yes I agree; I'm in the same boat as you and am in no way blaming Auntie for it. I'm almost 100% sure that my postman just lost it or sent it to the wrong address. I just had the first appeal to my insurance claim rejected today. I filed a second one just because I could, but I know it's not going to help. I've done a lot of business with USPS over the years, and they've been very reliable overall. It's just a shame that they had to lose one of the most expensive things I've ordered in a while, and then mark it delivered.

This won't deter me from doing business with HI in the future, as I have been very happy with the previous two knives I purchased. Although I will probably request a signature on delivery for my next order.

I just got off the phone with USPS for the second time, they told me since the package was scanned at my apartment and delivered, my claim was rejected. I inquired about reporting mail theft, as everything I read online directed me to report stolen mail to the Postal Service, however the woman I spoke with told me to report it to the police. Funny, the police told me to report stolen mail to the USPS :/

My only recourse at this point is to ask Yangdu to file a claim for the $50 of insurance that she purchased. Again, I understand these things happen but I wish USPS wouldn't leave packages unattended in busy urban neighborhoods.

Yes indeed it is a sad case.
Dealing with insurance claim with post office is time consuming and not easy.
Keep me update on lost parcel

I had so much trouble with stolen mail that I rented a box at a UPS store last month. The people at the PO were running around like chickens when I reported the two thefts. They just don't care.....

Yes, this was my experience as well. To be perfectly honest, I understand that USPS can't cover stolen packages. Again, I wish the postal worker hadn't left it unattended on my door, but as I said before this is standard practice at my building and many packages have been left and recieved without incident. However, everyone I've spoken to at USPS has offered little service (even in terms of simply reporting the theft) and mostly seems to just want me to go away.

By contrast, Auntie has twice offered to send me another Foxy Folly, both for free and at half price, despite the fact that this is in no way her reponsibility. That my friends is true customer service, and I believe it in large part explains why HI has such a loyal customer base.

I have told Yangdu that I'm happy to pay full price for another FF and have requested signature required. This was an unfortunate incident, but I'll be damned if it means I won't get my hands on one of these beauties. Will post pictures when it arrives :)
