Stolen Photo

5.0, your bali pics rock. That would tick me off too, and I'm a lousy photographer. :grumpy:

Fivepointohh,

Or even better, contact them and get them to cut you a deal on a good knife, for the use of your pic. !:D

Robbie Roberson

I hate seeing stuff like this. People should use pictures of the actual knife that is being sold. How do you get an accurate idea of what the knife you are bidding on looks like when the seller uses a picture found on the internet?

Maybe you saw this thread in GBU. This eBay seller actually used photos on his auction page that were hosted on his competitor's server, but the competitor found out and substituted REALLY GROSS porno photos for the ones that were being hijacked.

eBay pulled the auction; I suspect the seller got in a lot of trouble.

That seriously pisses me off. FivePointOhh, you should definitely get a piece of the action. $212.50 for a 730CFD2?!! You should contact the seller and charge him $50 for the use of your beautiful picture.

A couple days ago I saw a guy selling a used 806D2 and he was using a picture of the knife from onestopknifeshop.com. I wrote him and asked if he got onestopknifeshop's permission to use the picture.... less than a hour later the picture was modified to where you couldnt tell it was the same pic (the oval blueish green graphic that onestopknifeshop uses in the background of its knife pictures was photoshopped out)

I have always thought that any time someone posts in GB&U (good or bad --- and I realize this thread didn't start there)that the persone getting the "feedback" should be notified. I hope I didn't offend anyone by sending the link to the lister. I got these two notes in response:

I didn't know that it would upset somebody like this. I'm am sorry. I
noticed alot of people on here do this & never had a complaint until now.
The picture wasn't copyrighted to my knowledge so I thought it was fine. It
was the best picture that I could find. I apologies for my error & I'll quit
doing it.
Please except my apology.

MrknifeNut
and
I have added an apology in with the auction. I will go out & get a digital
camera so I can take the picture's myself. Sorry again.

That can't possibly satisfy everyone but it is probably better than him not knowing he had pissed off the image owner and maybe at least he will change from now on out. Maybe some good comes out of it?

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Raghorn, thanks for the comps.

Fracmeister, thanks for contacting the auction owner and leading him to this thread.

I'm not too annoyed at this anymore and he did revise his auction to reflect the contacts he received. I'm now taking this as a form of flattery. But all he had to do was ask if he could us the photo, I would have let him. He has only been a ebay member for less than 30 days so this will definitely be a lesson for him. I'm glad he's getting a digital camera. It's a great tool for ebay auctions. He will have a lot of fun with it.

Cheers!

I'd say he definitley learned his lesson, and sure seems upstanding going by his response.

On the other hand, I have to be honest and admit I've usedpictures I've gotten ont he web for auctions before. Not for knife stuff, but for other things(gun stuff generally). The products were almost always new in wrap, and I carefully described any variations, but still this gives me second thought.

That being said, didn't steal anyone's personal pictures, but when I did do this, generally took them from the maker, or from the site where I got the stuff(was reselling some Tapco products on Ebay because idiots were paying 2-5 times what Tapco charged for the stuff, and I bleieve I used one of their pictures of the prodct).

Luckily, haven't ebay'd for a while, so can't kick myself about doing this lately. :)

Good thread, and good poitns guys. thanks,a nd glad it was resovled well

I contacted the seller, too.

I was pretty harsh with him.

Those who know me know that I have "collected" nearly every picture of a balisong I could find, and have posted said pictures when a question comes up in the forums. I keep them as a database of reference images.

But I think it's different when you are trying to sell something for a profit.

He apoligised to me, and has stated an apology in his auction, so he's got that going for him.

If you have seen my photography skills, you'd know I am quite the crappy photographer, so I can understand where he eants the best photo he can get for his auction.

FivePointOhh, your pictures are very sweet, and you should be proud of the quality and presentation of your subject.

FivePointOhh......... I am the guy who used your photo in my auction. I see by this post that I not only upset you, but also your fellow friends on here. Believe it or not, I went out today & bought a digital camera. A Sony DSC-S85. Once I get it all figured out, I'll get all of my own pictures for now on. Again, I apologise for what I did. If I knew who to ask, I would have, but obviously, I goofed. :( All in all, it was a awesome picture you took. Much better than I'll be able to. Hope you guys don't mind that I posted on here.

Sixfeetdeep, you have shown a lot of moxy in coming here and apologizing for your actions. As far as I am concerned you have proven yourself to be a standup person. Welcome to BladeForums, I hope you like it here enough to hang around.

I agree with Keith. Everyone makes mistakes. How they deal with them and what they do to correct those mistakes is the important thing.

Welcome to BladeForums.

You got a great camera too, that Sony S85. Same one I have. Mine passed the "dropped down 6 flights of concrete steps" test.

Hi SixFeetDeep,

No hard feelings bud. It just shocked me to see my photo being used in an auction. Thanks for your complement on my picture. Congrats on getting a nice camera. It's better than mine! If you have any questions on composing photos feel free to contact me and I'll try to help.

Hey, welcome to BladeForums! There are a lot of great people here willing to share their time to answer questions and chat about knives and almost anything else. Enjoy and hope ya come back and be a part of the community.

Cheers,

Dave
