Ok I'm not Bearthedog or even half the reviewer most of you are, yet I feel it important to showcase a knife I received recently from John (Stomper). Many of us that have purchased from him know his knives are no-nonsense users and since he has started doing convex edges, they cut like lasers and are easy-peasy to sharpen with a little stropping. This is my second knife from John (own one of his Kepharts) and he is fantastic to deal with in every way. Order from him and you won't be disappointed. He provides working knives at great prices. Get some for the upcoming holiday season!
I apologize for the lack of outdoor pics, I have a day off soon so hope to get outside and cut some wood and take daytime pics to add to this thread.
Suffice it to say I saw this knife in one of Bear's threads and was immediately drawn to the look of the knife-wide blade and meaty handles. I am not a fan of wimpy handles, I like something that doesn't disappear if you grab it wearing gloves.
Sheath is a utilitarian affair with a velcro handle closure. Usually I dislike velcro, but this one works well and opens far enough that I don't have to worry about slicing it off putting the knife away. I asked John to mod the sheath for horizontal carry and he put a nice thick piece of leather on the back that I tried out around the house the other day- it carries well.
Food prep is a huge priority for me-I used to cook in restaurants and like a bigger knife to be nimble enough to provide yeoman's work in the home kitchen, as well as the outdoor kitchen. This knife peeled potatoes, chopped onions, smashed garlic, and helped prepare some yummy comfort food for me and my 2 sons this weekend. It was shaving sharp when it arrived and I have yet to need to sharpen it, something I generally do after whacking a knife into a cutting board repeatedly. On with the pics!
I wanted HD to have an in-hand pic and to show off the black liners. I have the same handle, oak, with black on my Keppy. I seal my handes with some clear nail polish and it makes them waterproof.
John's pics are these two:
