Heres a pic of my camp knife and a s&w model 19. The revolver is an ugly one, but is she a shooter. Had to rescue it from a gunshop today. Has a perfect bore and cylinder lockup despite how ragged it looks.

Yeah its prelock/pinned barrel. I looked up the history, they made the model 19-3 from 67-77.

Even though I love my ,45 auto, there is something about a S&W wheelgun that really does it for me. I`ve only got 3 left, my Airweight .38, my custom 629, and grampa`s old Model 15 .38.

I know how ya feel. I have always been big on automatics but theres something about S&W revolvers. Ive got those 2 357s and my great uncles model 14.

I have lost track of how many K frames I have had, Many, before I switched to Ruger. I still have the air weight 38 Special. I had a bunch of Dan Wessons too, Those were some hell for tough Revolvers, way ahead of their time.

There are a couple spots of real light pitting on this model 19 and alot of finish wear. I think I wanna get it refinished, can you guys reccomend anyone reputable?

They dont jam or misfire and if you can't hit something with 5 tries it is probably too late. Nice combination.

And here is the pretty pair.

Beautiful. You'd have a hard time beating that pair.
I got spoiled with S&W revolvers. My local gunsmith, George Matthews was one of the best there has ever been at making them work right.
I only have my model 29 (with a 10 inch Douglas Bull barrel) left. I really want a good pocket .38

I used to have a small gun shop. I worked with another fellow who was a great gunsmith. We had a lot of fun projects to work with. We took in dozens and dozens of revolvers when the police switched over to auto's. Yeah, that was quite a while back. We shot with the police and sheriffs office combat shooting group and put up a rifle and handgun steel silhouette range out on my small farm. I was shooting and reloading about 700 rounds a week. Mostly 45 ACP and 308 Win. I finally got burned out quit and didn't touch my reloading stuff for ten years. I sold my shop when Clinton took over.

We shot with a lot of federal agents and police but the best combat shooter we had in the bunch was a Postal worker. The guy was a shooting machine. My buddy was a X Marine and pretty good with his handguns, the first time he shot against the Postal guy and got beat, he was real quiet for quite a few miles on the drive home. Then after a lot of thought, he said " I bet they call that SOB Wyatt Earp ".

Not only pre-lock, but I think I see a pinned barrel.

Yeah....Thats a good one.

I love wheelguns...S&W has made some nice ones over the years. Ive owned a few....I miss my stainless 686 4in bbl .357....Loved that gun.

How would you guys say s&w wheelguns stack up against colts, such as the python and anaconda? Ive never had the pleasure of shooting a colt.

Stronger than the Python, those were famous for going out of time, the Anaconda? Don`t know, they did not seem to be around long. That said, I think the Rugers, tho not a fancy, are the strongest.

Hi udtjim -

How ironic! ;)

I only have two revolvers, both are S&W - one is my grandmothers detectives special, and the other is my Magnum 500 Performance Center.

Both are real sweeties - but I have to reload for the .500 to make it even remotely reasonable to afford to fire it - factory loads can be as much as $4 a round

I intend to take a pic of it with my JK Bowie when I get it.

best regards -

I've owned three Pythons and didn't like any of 'em. Hated the various grips I tried, hated the hammer and hated the trigger. Never found the vaunted Python trigger to be anywhere near as smooth as a broken-in Smith trigger.
They do have a beautiful profile though.
I've also owned a truck load of Smiths of all frame sizes and loved each and every one.
Give me an N frame with TT and TH any day.
Just my opinion.

Come to think of it, the only ruger revolvers Ive owned or shot are all single actions. Only thing I dont like about the s&ws is its hard to shoot most of them in double action. Fingers need to be a few inches longer, lol. The model 19 is the only one that I can fire effectively in double action.

I figured by seeing the prices of these used colts that they were great revolvers, I reckon they sell for so much because of nostalgia.
