Stomper style pic

I had a couple of colts, both 357 Mags. They were decent and had some pretty darn good stock triggers, at least the ones I had were. I had many of the model 10, 15 and 19's I had one model 10 with a 357 cylinder in it that I bought from a Police officer.

Steel silhouette shooting moved me up to the Dan Wesson revolvers and finally the Contender. The Dan Wesson Pistol Pacs came with assorted barrel lengths but you could adjust the cylinder gaps for custom lead bullets. I had a 357, 41 and 44 Pistol Pacs. I also had a 357 Maximum silhouette model. I had a H&R single shot to the 357 Maximum which duplicates the velocity of the 30-30 150 Gr bullet with 158 grain bullet with about ten grains less powder. I have not even fired that one yet. They quit making brass for that but i had about 200 brass already.

Id never heard of a 357 max before. I just looked it up and the ballistics seem to give 44 mag a run for its money.

You reload it with 357 Mag dies, just back them out about 1/8 inch. The Handy rifle will now shoot 38's, 357's and the Maxi as well. From the 22 inch Handy rifle barrel you can get about 2200 fps from the 158 grain bullet. Close to 2000 fps with the new Hornady pointed bullets. When I get some reloading done and some decent weather I will post pictures and results.

The only time I ever fired a .357 Maximum was at a small indoor range. The concussion inside was impressive and a little disorienting.

Stronger than the Python, those were famous for going out of time, the Anaconda? Don`t know, they did not seem to be around long. That said, I think the Rugers, tho not a fancy, are the strongest.

I would agre with Stomper on this. The Rugers are just built like little rhinos.

Agree 100%.

The Colts have bad triggers IMO too. A nicely broken in Smith has a great trigger, better then Ruger IMO, but for overall bombproofness, the edge is Ruger. The Ruger GP100 is one of the best production Revolvers around, for price, and durability.

Still, Ive never had a "bad" Smith. S&W can pound sand untill they get rid of that damn lock. Which I believe they have done on some models. Their M&P series is pretty nice too. The ARs and the Autos.

Still more, a prelock pinned bbl Smith wheelgun is a fantastic thing to behold.

In an earlier post I assailed the vaunted Python, but the Trooper and later King Cobra were some fantastic revolvers. Every bit as strong as the Rugers, tough as nails, accurate and with triggers almost as good as the Smiths.
For several years I kept a 6" King Cobra next to the bed and sold it only because I wanted to find a 4" version, which I never managed to do.
I currently have a 4" Smith 28-2 that reliably handles my mid-magnum chores, but I would trade it off in an instant for a solid 4" King Cobra.
