Stone wash question

I would think that would be too small unless all you were planning to do was some folder blades. At a diameter of 4.5 inches it looks like the drum can't be any longer than 6 inches, probably less.

Unfortunately I didn't pay any mind to that til you mentioned it. my blade will be closer to 8, I might just build one

Build a container to put your blade in, like a two liter. Duct tape a couple towels around it, and then stick it in the dryer.

I agree with egally08. You do not need to spend a bunch of money to get a nice stone wash finish. I used a gatorade bottle and busted up ceramic tile with a little dish soap. It worked well. Go get yourself some PVC pipe , end caps to fit and a roll of duct tape . Maybe ask a flooring store if they have any broken tile you can have. Put it all together and let the kids roll it around the yard for a hour or so while you are setting up your sharpening gear .

Do case tumblers (the kind used to polish rifle or pistol brass) just leave too fine of a finish?

Seems like they'd work well, being designed to do approximately the same thing.

Great tip on using pieces of tile!

I use a vibratory tumbler with ceramic media, and it does a great job.

If I were stone washing a lot of blades, I might go with a cement mixer and 2 or 3 times as much media.
