Have a D2 folder blade heat treated, with black scale still on. I temper at 950/900. Is it neccessary to remove the scale before stone washing, or is the scale itself enough to yield the effect? TIA.

I think you'll want to remove the scale. You can do this with an extremely aggressive tumbling process, but it will wash out a lot of detail and dull the tip.

Thanks, With that I will get the scale off first, then stone wash it. Took me to dang long to grind it to botch it now.
