Stonewash Media

The photo is pretty bad. I sanded the blade to I think 1500 before HT and tumbled overnight when I got it back. The finish is more of a "gray" polish. You can still see some reflection from my finger holding the knife for pic. Also too bad as I have misplaced this knife about 5 months ago and I have no idea where it is! I do want to get some media with a hair of abrasive in it and tumble after sanding to 400. That might give more of a rougher look as compared to gray polish. Nathan was right about tumbling removing all HT color. When I got that blade back from HT I tossed it right in.

Here is the links to the media I purchased. Some sites said two things about media. One, it needs to have odd shapes or edges, and two different sizes help get into edges and recesses.
So I got the large stuff and the small stuff.

When I get around to it I am gonna buy a coarser grit from these guys.

I just got the 18 pound tumbler from harbor freight. I loaded it with 20 pounds of media, the small kind that they sell and it works very well. 400 grit belt, to bead blast, to the tumbler for 2-3 hours and I get a nice stone wash finish. I dig it. I can post pics if there is interest...

I did two, 9 inch over all fixed blades and some folder blades and parts all at once the other day, no problem, I guess you may be able to get away with 10-11 inches over all. It has to have room to move around in there.

Hard to get a good pic of the finish.... Bear in mind that the stone wash doesn't hide anything you missed before. If you are looking for a short cut, for me thus far, aint it... Much a pity. I like the finish though!
