I just thought I'd post up some pictures of the stonewashing kob I did on my 25. I used a big plastic bottle and 2 kinds of ceramic media. The first were more on the rougher side, and beat the heck out of it. The second triangles were much smoother, and smoothed the titanium out a little. I tried to capture the best pics I could, and zooming in will really show the detail. I also ran the scales of a Bradley Alias, so it looks identical to this. I really like the way they both turned out. This definitely hides any scratches and marring that will ever happen! Tell me what ya think...

The last pic was what it looked like before I did this. I had bead blasted it myself. I prefer the stonewash finish, I think..

I think it came out nice! Im a sucker for tinkering with the finish on crks :)

Nice work. Trying to figure out if I will stone my 25 or cerakote it.

I love it!

Thank you..It really looks much better in person, and of course we all know that. Pictures can only do so much justice as for the detail. It feels "grippier" in hand, versus the bead blasted finish, which in my opinion, makes it kinda slick. The CRK blasted finish feels grippy, but it just gets all marked up too easily. This stonewashed finish hides them so very well. I think CRK should offer it as a service, or at least an option when ordering.

No, I'm not brave enough to do the blade yet. If I had a Wicked Edge I probably would, but since I currently only have the Sharpmaker, I don't think I could put a good enough edge on it after tumbling it. And, it's already stonewashed from the factory, so it's good enough for me right now. I have a Sunwayman v10r Ti light I'm thinking about doing next, but I'm still on the fence about it. It may or may not reduce the value of it if I ever decided to let it go, so I don't know. If I do, I'll definitely post pics of it.

Maybe I should know this, but does something like this void the great CRK warranty? Even if you protect the pivot and screw areas? Or of course, if you did a deeper stone wash on the blade.....
I am very curious. Thanks....I would imagine the answer is YES it does...but I am usually wrong

Looks great. Can this be done on scales with micarta inlays? I mean would it damage the inlays?

The one problem I see with doing the Ti light is that it will destroy the laser etching of the logo and other markings. As it is right now, after having been riding in my jacket pocket for the past few months, it's gotten all scratched up, and I mean hairline type scratches, typical of shiny titanium. No gouges or dings or any of that, just fine scratching on the finish. So, really, to make this look any better, I can either bead blast it, or stonewash it. Either way, the logo will gone. I think I will blast it first, and see what I think of it. But it will still end up showing scratches. The stonewashing on the other, will not. And that's what I like about it so much.
As far as warranty, I really don't know. I just took it all apart except for the press fit stop pin, and tossed it in the big bottle. It went back together as good as it always has, nothing changed whatsoever as far as smoothness and lock up, so I don't expect any future issues because of my modification.
And as far as doing this with Micarta inlays, well, I don't think you'd get a very uniform finish due to the Micarta sticking out away from the slab, and the stones may not be able to do their cutting up close to where the Ti meets the Micarta, especially the gap between the 2 pieces on the one side. I used a pretty rough media the first stage, and it really cut it all up. The smoother media used next is what smoothed it all out. You maybe could try, but given the fact it may not turn out with uniformity, I wouldn't do it if it were mine.

Man, I'm telling you right now, that looks GREAT!! I'm a big fan of that. Very cool. I'm glad you had the "stones" to do it. :)

Thank you. I wish that CRK would offer it as a service. I'm sure there are many others out there that would like the same finish. Some people like the way the Ti looks after being used for awhile, and the character it develops with all the marks and rubs. And there's nothing wrong with that. I just prefer this kind of finish. I'm thinking about doing the OxyClean treatment, but I have to research it more so I know what I'm doing. If anyone esle has done that, I'd sure like to see some pics, or advice..Thanks..

I do the oxy clean treatment often.
It it not very aggressive. I fill up a plastic beer mug and use the powdered oxy mix. I add about 4 table spoons for about 20 oz of water. It works pretty quick and looks great.
Just go for it , throw it in for 10 minutes at a time. Here is a picture of a ZT that just shows what a long bath will achieve.

Not a CRK but an example of a heavy Oxy job for a customer. Just because I used nail polish on the lack face, detent and bearing track just as a precaution as if Acid washing.
If any one can post a picture of the unfinished Ti side to contrast.
