I am gonna do the OxyClean treatment later today, so you'll be able to compare the difeerences, with THIS knife anyway. The stonewashing I did may casue it to look different than one without it, I don't know. I will post pics up later after it's done.
I also would like to see some before/after shots, if you have any Matt.

I hate to ask again, but would this void the warranty if doing it with nail polish?

I seriously doubt it, because he only uses the nail polish to protect the areas he doesn't want affected. After treatment, the polish is removed, and you'd never know it was there. It's only temporary. As long as you don't destroy your knife, be careful and take your time and do it right, minor mods like this shouldn't affect any warranty whatsoever. As long as you don't mess with the lockup or any other areas where precision matters, you should be fine. I have personally bead blasted my CRK's several times and had no problems. It looks brand new again, and I don't have to wait 5 or 6 weeks to get it back!

If I ever wanted one stonewashed, I'll send it to you..excellent work. Will a bead blast bring it back to original or will there be any "dits or nicks" in the titanium from the stonewash?

Well thank you for the kind words! But I can tell you how I did it, and trust me, it's so easy you can do it yourself. As far as bead blasting it back to smooth, well, I can't answer that. I am gonna guess no, because bead blasting isn't as rigorous as shot or sand blasting. Those two very well could, and I'm almost positive that shot blasting would. I did this with the intention of it being this way forever..

Although I'm certainly not the first person to do this type of finish, it's catching on. More and more people are doing it, and they all look very good!! No matter what kind of media used, they all turn out kind of similar. I wish I had used ball bearings the first time around, just to see for myself the difference between that and ceramic triangles..maybe I need another Sebenza..

Im pretty sure it doesn't void the warranty and CRK would blast the handles if you sent it in. Its not really modifying anything other than kind of accelerating the surface wear. But best to ask CRK if your still concerned.

Lonny, Love the finish and Im looking forward to seeing what the before and after oxy treatment reveals. Ive never seen that before.

Thanl you. I finally bought some oxy-clean, so I plan to hopefully do this after work. I keep saying that, but today I'm gonna do it. Just been so busy with work..

I'm not familiar with the oxy clean finish. What exactly is it supposed to do?

It's supposed to give a gray finish which gets darker the longer it sits in an oxyclean bath. Similar to acidwash blades.

Yes, I did, and it turned out terrible. Only because I made the mistake of laying the 2 slabs across each other, and not fully cleaning all the oils from the surface. Look at this thread:

Here you can see the results, and I also heat anodized the one slab just for fun, because I wanted to see if the bead blaster would remove all this. As you can see, it did. I won't try the oxy-clean again. I just don't care to do it, even if I did it correctly.

Lonny
Can you please explain how you did your stone wash, where you got the media, etc?

Thanks
Lou

Man, what a difference in those scales after you blasted them Lonny. I would have never thought that they could return to an original look.

The oxy gave an interesting result. thanks for trying it. I think it was at the very least a very worthwhile learning experience. The rebeadblasted scales look great though!

I used two different types of media, the first ones very coarse, the second very smooth. The second ones I found at Harbor Freight, the coarse ones I found at work. I used a large plastic container, a grape juice jug, threw in the stones and the titanium, wrapped the jug with a towel and taped it up, and tossed in the dryer for 35-45 minutes. Do the same with the smother stones, and there you have it! Pretty easy if you ask me...You really can't mess it up.
