I was always under the impression that stonewashed blades were a little more rust resistant than satin finished blades. Could be wrong, but that is why I mentioned the rust issue with ZDP-189.
It's one of those "it depends" things. If the satin finish is right off the belt or scotchbrite with no buffing, it's very rough on the microscopic level with lots of places for moisture salts and corrosion to start in, buffed slightly to smooth out the pits and valleys and it's going to be better than most stonewashed finishes out of the tumbler. A low abrasive media that burnishes more than it cuts used to stonewash would have a positive effect on rust resistance.
