I just bought an 0804CF, and I was just curious to see if anyone had stonewashed theirs (or a customers) to give it that Black Wash effect. A few pictures or a link to some would be great. This will be my second 0804, I got rid of the first because I was afraid to mar up the DLC coating that I refused to carry it, so I sold it. But I love the design so much that I decided to buy it again and I want to figure out a way to stop the coating from looking like crap. Anyone have and other suggestions other than stonewashing?

DLC is one of the hardest coatings to beat up. It's like 75% harder than the steel underneath. If you want to find a craftsman to do this for you, we have a forum for that.

According to some searches, DLC is actually as hard as the weakest form of diamond (http://www.evolvediamonds.com/index.php?page=physical). It is about 2/5ths as hard as perfect diamond. However, the DLC coating is only 2 micrometers thick. This means your knife will be extremely scratch resistant, but will be susceptible to relatively hard impacts.

Be careful of dropping it or accidentally knocking it against other materials, and you should be fine.

I've dropped DLC knives on gravel from 10' and there was nothing but a tiny pin tip sized shiny spot. When it gets applied it gets vacuumed into the steel and bonds in such a way that it almost adheres to the outer layers of the steel. It's a cool science that doesn't get as much interest as it should in our hobby.

Interesting...I'll give that a read, thanks for the link.

Dlc is hard but imho its pretty easy to scratch as overall hardness is only one factor of many in regards to scratch resistance. I would youtube videos on tumbling the knife yourself. Its pretty simple and as long as you have a dryer for clothing the only thing you would need to buy is some ceramic media. Rounded media seems to work best. But if you want to have someone do it i was very happy with the work josh did at razor edge knives.
