Yes I know it is Kershaw, hence my posing the question in the appropriate area. I mean the name it's self.

I thought it was just a place in Japan and Kershaw is just a part of Kai.

Also the name of a dog I had several years back(shepard, doberman, coonhound mix), I think it means "ocean" in japanese and hawaiian.

it's actually KAL, and it's pretty obvious that the company is owned by, and named after Kal Penn. You know, the guy who plays Kumar. For reals.

KAI can mean earth, ocean, sea and a few other things. Depends on how you use it and what country you're in when you say it.
