Stop and frisk?

Hello again. Boy, you go away for a few minutes and, suddenly, you've got twenty answers to your question! And all of them are reasonable, intelligent and helpful. Thank you all for your replies. Like I said, it has never happened to me in 30 years of living in this city, carrying a knife every single day. Over that time, my EDC's have ranged from a SAK to a Case stockman (lots of those :) ) to my current BM705 (love that axis lock). All have been relatively small, partly for comfort and partly because of LEO paranoia.
I work in a place that employs lots of African-American and Latino young people, all art school graduates and middle class, all of whom have stories of being stopped and frisked for no apparent reason, or because they "looked like somebody".
On the other hand, half of the knife collectors in the city seem to be NYPD!
Anyway, in the event of a confrontation with the cop on the beat, I'll be polite, as you suggest, and try to see things from his or her perspective. (While I'm getting a badge number :) )
John.

I couldn't live somewhere where everybody was afraid of a knife, lockblade or otherwise. What insanity!

What a refreshing, REASONABLE discussion about cops from mostly civilians. I had to read everything twice to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

As a former participant on some firearms forums (mainly GlockTalk), where the rabid "constitutionalists" slam cops in general at every opportunity, this is a hurricane of fresh air.

Sure, there are bad cops. But you guys seem to realize that most of us are just trying to do a job and get by, like the majority of people in the world.

One recurring theme in these posts has been that if you behave yourself, 99 times out of 100 the cops won't pay any attention to you. EXACTLY CORRECT. Just about every arrest ever made had it's roots in somebody getting ignorant. Your right to be an ******* ends when it begins to negatively affect other folks.

Again, thanks. You fellows made my day.

Steve

Hey Steve, If you think the Glock forum is anti LEO try the AR-15
forums. I no longer visit either since I don't like my blood pressure
getting that high! For the most part, they both have a majority of reasonable members but the anti LEOs are rabid and vociferous.

<<...AR-15 forum anti-LEO...>>

No kidding.

What cracks me up there is the guys who bray about wiping out the raid party and "heading to the hills", with their lovingly-described latest gadget-laden M-4 or whatever, when the jack-booted thugs come a-calling. Real men, those guys.

We ran an op on a fellow like that in Kenner a couple of years ago; a real hero who was telling everybody how bad he was while distributing (and setting off) his pipe bombs. When we led him out of his house in cuffs at 0500, there was a big wet spot in his shorts...
