Stop eating breakfast

All the studies I'm aware of demonstrate that people who eat breakfast tend to be leaner.
Do you have to eat breakfast? No. But I still think it's the most important meal of the day--mom said it so it must be true. The speaker's point of view is supported by...anecdotal evidence only: "the Spartan's did it this way....." Not buying it; make mine two eggs over medium with a side of grilled ham.

I'm not particularly impressed with the first video. Diet and timing of meals differ for different societies and individuals with different needs.

Pointing to the supposed Graeco-Roman habits was simplistic. In today's world, we've seen people in the Mediterranean and the Far East with long healthy lives tied to diet and activity, so the idea itself is OK. But his examples were terrible.

On the impending extinction of the species, that's hard to say. I agree that the pollution in our biosphere is not a great idea. But different species are adapted to different environments, with our species being stressed by constantly remaking our own.

Seven minutes of conclusions without the extensive research backing it up is not enough to spark a coherent debate.

I definitely get my diet and exercise advice from youtube, and not peer reviewed scientific research...

Yes! :D

Don't ever ask your doctor, either! Mine agrees I should eat only lightly if at all at night, and never go to sleep on a full stomach.

And depending on your personal health, you may have different parameters to live by than others.

As I'm sure Esav knows, a lot of the diet "advise" going around can be downright dangerous to a diabetic.

Exactly. If I followed his advice, within a week, I'd have put on at least 5 to 10 pounds or gone comatose. Probably both ...

Without getting into the videos, it's the same thing I say for many similar posts, it all depends on the individual.

Yeah, most of the facts he points out have other facts that contradict them... The Egyptions had a longer lifespan than the Romans for instance. Pointing at drawings of ancient people, was inaccurate as well. They didn't draw themselves as the average person was, they drew themselves as they though was the most beautiful.

Though eating once a day is bound to reduce fat stores... im not sure about the alertness he pointed out. Might be fun to try for a week, but im not convinced

general rule of thumb. the more they say Toxins, and Free radicals the less credible they tend to be.

The only food advice I ever heard from anyone who wasn't a doctor, that I would actually listen to, was from Michael Pollan.

It goes something like this:

eat food. not too much. mostly plants.

In other words, avoid over processed crap, don't be a slob, and eat your dang vegetables. I think we can all get behind such a simple concept.

bon appetit

if it comes in a can
or it comes in a jar
i can make it myself
which is better by far

i hate to be picky
i hate to be rude
but packaged nutrition
is not really food

it's bad for ya, dude!

it's loaded with sugar & salt & with fat
you really don't want to be eating all that

i heard many times including my mom say.
For breakfast eat like a king, for lunch eat like a prince for dinner eat like a poor man. sorry on somethings i would listen to grandma and mom and maybe someone else grandma. there are something that your grandparents know more about then most. Its called life exp.

i saw a documentary on the brain functions and they say that if you eat half of what you usually eat your brain tells your body to start a starvation process and conserve as much energy as it can... therefore living longer... sometimes twice as long as proved with rats...

What kills you of old age is your body's cells become old an ineffective. Eventually your circulatory system begins to go out, and at some point or another you die from lack of oxygen to your brain. By eating less your brain will slow your cell growth and you'll live longer. Food is infact bad for you.

but by eating less, you still need to get enough nutrients. The diet then becomes largely liquid, and plant based. Doesn't sound like much fun.

best poetry i've read in quite some time. Then again, i rarely read poetry at all... :D

I was once told I should give up coffee, spicy foods and alcohol. Since variations of those composed a significant portion of my normal diet it left me wondering what the hell I was going to eat. Naturally I ignored that advice and I'm still alive. (Although some might disagree about the "alive" part.)

lmao where to even start.this guy made points that the only people in ancient times that ate breakfast were the slaves..i wonder why the the slaves needed to eat breakfast,oh yea so maybe they would have the energy to do thier work!the egyptians weren't fat(if they even were)because they ate breakfast, the only reason they would have been fat is because they never had to do any physical labor with all the slaves around. your body slightly catobolizes at night and because there is no exurtion done to work the muscles,it doesn't need a high quality fuel source like muscle, which is what gets used for energy when you wake up and run a marathon on an empty stomach, not fat.

everything in moderation.understand that when you dont eat for long periods of time throughout the day, your metabolism goes into survival mode by slowing down to pretty much the speed it is at night, resulting in stored energy once some is consumed. another myth is fat and carbs make you fat..in the short ,unused energy in any form becomes a stored energy aka fat. eating before bed will NOT make you lose weight, especially if that was your only meal of the day,it will do the exact oposite.

theres so many things that this guy dabbled in,i would have to write a book just to correct everything he said that had half truths or was false all together.maybe just consider the source

Anyone who tells me to give up spicy foods, coffee, and alcohol are wasting their advice.

I have eaten one meal a day for most of my life and I am now 50. I have always been healthy and strong for my size. I'm 5'8" tall and weigh 147 lbs.

I drink a beer or two every night on the weekends, no hard liquor, and I've never smoked. I spent every available minute outside playing from age 3-19.

I just had my over 50 physical and was told, my body is in as good a shape as a 20 year old. Good cholesterol, good blood pressure, etc...

Besides, I'd rather live how many ever years I'm able enjoying myself. Not worrying everyday if I've eaten enough of this and not to much of that.

I eat what I want, when I want, but I eat in moderation. Keep the general portion size down. Quit when you feel full, it's not a competition.

Last nutrition course I did, a study was mentioned in which they compared the weight of people on two different diets. One group ate only one meal per day, the other ate 6 small meals per day. Both groups consumed the same calories in that day, let's say 2000 cals.
Both groups maintained their starting weight on the diets.

Conclusion; overall caloric consumption is more important for weightloss/ gain than when you eat.

Of course your body will run better if you feel it little and often, to maintain blood sugar levels. It was also found that those that skip breakfast are more likely to snack on sweet food later in the day, as the brain goes into sugar craving mode.

Another point that was mentioned was that the macronutrient ratio of a diet is far less important than the overall caloric budget.

Slightly on a tangent, apologies for thread drift.
