Stop eating breakfast

Last nutrition course I did, a study was mentioned in which they compared the weight of people on two different diets. One group ate only one meal per day, the other ate 6 small meals per day. Both groups consumed the same calories in that day, let's say 2000 cals.
Both groups maintained their starting weight on the diets.

Conclusion; overall caloric consumption is more important for weightloss/ gain than when you eat.

Of course your body will run better if you feel it little and often, to maintain blood sugar levels. It was also found that those that skip breakfast are more likely to snack on sweet food later in the day, as the brain goes into sugar craving mode.

Another point that was mentioned was that the macronutrient ratio of a diet is far less important than the overall caloric budget.

Slightly on a tangent, apologies for thread drift.

Quoted for truth.

I've been intermittent fasting for 2-3 years now. For me basically it means start eating around 3PM and end the eating period 11-12PM. I gain or lose weight (muscle/fat) depending how many calories I eat and lift weights and do other activities. If needed for daily activities I eat breakfast and lunch. For me, this is a very flexible way to eat. It may not suit everybody, YMMV.

good health =good food+good exercise+good parental genetic contribution.

and the weight assigned to each is dependent on x other variables.

I know a man who gave up smoking, drinking, sex, and rich food. He was healthy right up to the day he killed himself.

I definitely get my diet and exercise advice from youtube, and not peer reviewed scientific research...

BINGO

Every dang fool trying to sell some wacko health scheme or product who uses pseudo scientific jargon, testimonials, and stories instead of facts looses my interest immediately.

Exactly. I don't care who you are, your body runs better with a constant energy level than a feast/famine regimen.

Just like how "starvation" diets don't work because people's cravings get the better of them and the binge, taking in far more calories at once than if they ate sensibly.

People also run under the false assumption that they can starve all week, and go nuts on one day a week and lose weight. You can't, the excess calories taken in on that day are converted to fat. Better to eat what you like all of the time, just less of it.

Of course, you have to take special conditions into account (diabetic have to watch their sugar intake to make sure it's not too high OR too low, you may have to cut out some fats if your LDL cholesterol and triglycerides are high, cut back on sodium for high BP, etc).

Most honest doctors and nutritionists will come right out and tell you, there are no "miracle diet plans". The only thing that works is a proper diet and exercise. Which means you are going to be hungry and have to put in a lot of effort until you're where you need to be. Then it's fairly easy to maintain. Eating a consistent, proper diet, and doing exercise on a regular basis makes those things habits, and once they are a habit, it's not such a struggle to maintain.

Not so much breakfast, but WHAT you eat for breakfast. I like to include fruit with breakfast, fresh oranges crushed, banana and whatever else is in season. This with coffee or tea and rolls, I dislike all breakfast cereals, they are a 20th century deception.

I believe in a diet/intake that is as varied as possible, it's eating too much of the same foods that's bad for you, variety is the spice of life and it does help you to enjoy it!

Well.. it depends. Basically yes, I agree. But if done sensibly "starvation" diets do work and the cheat day when done correctly works like magic, fat just keeps melting off. Most just can't or don't do them correctly.

Great poem Esav.

I eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. I also eat a lot of chocolate and animal fat. Fat is OK as long as you have plenty of salt on it ;) . I think it is best not to worry too much about your diet or anything in life. If we have an active mind, a sense of wonder about our amazing universe, a positive attitude, gratitude and a relaxed and loving environment things tend to run fairly well. In my experience anyway.

Best wishes.... Coote.

No sugar, nothing made with white flour, limited potatoes. No corn (whatta ya think they fatten cattle with?). Plenty of beef, pork, chicken, eggs and fish. I lost 60lbs and have kept it off for 6 years. My triglycerides went from 355 to 45 ('normal' is 150) and it drives my cardiologist crazy to the point that he will no longer ask me what I eat.

Breakfast = 2 slices of bacon, 2 eggs (fried in bacon grease) a tablespoon of home made 'no sugar added' jelly. Every day.

I eat pretty much what I want as long as there is no bread, sugar or corn involved.

Want a strict diet? Look up 'Neanderthin'.
