Just had a Non paid member who got scammed
Posted his email.

Money gone

I didn't buy one for many months. I got lucky. Buying the membership is well worth it and supports the place we spend a good bit of time. Money well spent.

The best attitude to have is to expect that any personal information posted on a public venue can and will be used against you in a scam.

I was lucky. I bought my first home computer in 2005 and on that day a family member warned me about posting personal information. Thank goodness, I have followed that advice ever since. I may not have known that if nobody told me.

I advise anyone not aware of this to take a hard look at their internet practices, past and present. It might not seem like a big deal at the time but that is exactly the kind of attitude that scammers prey on.

Direct Messages are not viewable by the public and a paid membership even at the lowest level gives you DM privileges.

FWIW… I won’t buy from or sell to non-paying members, or paying members that flip solely for profit. YMMV

It's crazy how trusting people are on the internet. I'm still paranoid when I do everything cautiously.

I’m still perplexed that people are still asking for PPFF. I looked at two for sale threads this AM and both asked for that. In the past I would have asked to pay G&S but now I just pass.

I'm confused as to why people are paying with F&F with all the scams. If I can't do G&S I pass.

I'm not sure the gain of safety by upgrading membership. That being said i have been a paying member of every forumn (mostly cars) i've been a member of.

Money has been tight, but preferred here, i will upgrade Friday, as a priority. No slacker here. Gold is about it, right now.

Either way, cars are knives, encyclopedic info, i would not otherwise have.

Time to pay dues. Thanks gents.

You don't need to upgrade to Gold. You have access to DMs as long as you haven't exceeded the allotted amount. (Clear some if you are over.)

Nobody is trying to shame anyone here...it's all about protecting yourself by dealing through DMs vs email. It cuts out a large part of the window of opportunity for the scammers.

Whilst I deplore the scammers I am definitely loosing my sympathy for those who are still being scammed.

Multiple threads and warnings to people across the forum.......
Spark has posted multiple warning banners for months........
This has been going on for over a year and still people refuse to take heed of the warnings.

WTF people. Wake up!

It's even more disturbing when knife makers ask for it. I won't buy from them. Regarding the topic, a Basic bare bones membership is $10. I can't believe people won't get it to avoid getting scammed.

It’s less than 3 cents a day for a basic!!

Seriously, it’s the best investment you can make to protect yourself.

I have a hard time understanding how people get an unsolicited email knowing they didnt give the seller their email and just think its ok to send them money. That still absolutely blows my mind.

You need to get out more and meet folks.

☺️

Nothing like a thread from someone complaining they got scammed - all because they put their email in the public domain. They’ll spend $500 on a knife but not $10 to be safe. The mind boggles.

Thing is some of them havent even posted it in the specific thread. The scammers just search up their post history and find it. No seller is going to take the time to do that haha.
