Give me a recommendation for a hammock. No Rick, not your banana hammock - a hammock I can pack, bring with me, set up easily, and is a great value.

Clark Notrh American. Just google Clark Jungle hammock. While they are not as cheap as some they are bombproof. Set up very easily. Come with the rainfly (Camo model comes with the extra large fly) I have used mine in every type of conditions imaginable and it serves exceptionaly well. I even winter camp in it.

Thermarest makes a hammock that accepts a pad for insulation, this would be a nice feature.

I have a big tip for sleeping in a hammock.

Tie an extra piece of thin cord on the support ropes for the hammock. This will allow any water on the rope to go down to the ground rather than onto the bottom of your hammock.

I found this out the hard way while using a not water proof hammock and a cover tarp. Not fun!

Clark has that rain drip problem solved with the drip rings included with each hammock.

I researched every hammock made for around 3 1/2 months before ordering my first Clark.

One consideration for me was size I'm 6'4" tall most of the others are just a little short for comfort for tall folks. Clark also has a far greater strenght rating as to max load than most all the others. The North American also includes features no other hammock has and can indeed serve as a four season shelter. More expensive but waaay more bang for the buck.

Without a doubt some of the best outdoor equipment dollars I've ever spent.

Eagle nest outfitters single nest with slap straps and guardian bug net. My personal favorite. Have a henny too but it gets far less use now.

Damn you guys, just when I think I am immune to drooling uncontrollably you sic this stuff on me. That Clark stuff is fantastic and not expensive when you compare to quality 1-2 man tents and its almost too light to believe. Free's up the weight budget for blades and the night cap too

I slept in my first Clark year round in central washington my first year in one. I did get cold one night in the tropical (the zipper on my sleeping bag gave up the ghost) on the coldest night of that year. The North Americal is far better for year round camping. The weight is indeed negligible.

Plus it is a U.S. made product. It is also stout as hell. Very Very well made.

i second the warbonnett blackbird, i think santas bringing me the tarp that they sell as well. my improv blue tarp didnt fare that well with side blowing rain, rigged up some plastic to keep dry but the best sleep ever! not cheap but id pay more now that i know.have fun hanging. check out hammock forums for plenty of info.
