Stop The Presses,,, We have 2 Holiday Sets This Year,,,,,,,,

Saw them tonight at Wally World, the imports look good. Didn't pick up any though, will likely kick myself later. Did a little marketing though by cleaning up the display. My good "Buck" deed for the day :-)

This is my score from a Canadian Tire, was marked 50% off $40 down to $20. And too think I was just going to get metal shop materials...
So whats up with mine? Does Canada get a different tin or is Canadian Tire trying to sell off last years stock?

Picked up a nobleman set yesterday. I bought it to give it as a gift. I told all day yesterday how fine of a knife it looked to be. Only to see the review and see that the wood is only on 1 side. Mind you I'm giving this knife away so I really don't care either way on top of that its not my type of knife. What is Buck thinking. I'm sure the folks that bought the knife to get their selves into the Buck world at a very good price will get turned off. How much more would have it costed to put wood on both sides? I wish I had done my homework 1st. I hate I'm introducing this guy to Buck with this knife.

Probably enough to have kept them from hitting the price point required for Walmart to sell them for $20. Even a few cents on each of thousands of knives would add up. I figure that's why no pocket clip or thumb stud on the 482.

Having the fancy stuff only on one side has happened before and not with a cheapo either. The Carbon Fiber Buck/Mayo TNT has the CF only on one side, but probably because it's a frame lock and I doubt the CF would have worked for the lock side.

I found both tins at my Wally store today and purchased them. Now I find out the 327 only has the nice wood on one side. Bummer! I'm sure the price would have jumped had the wood been on both sides. Kind of cheesy as it doesn't state that on the box. Does it have a pocket clip on that side? DM

Oh I get it. But Buck doesn't have to sell it for $20. Even at $25 it would have sold. I live in N. Al and today I drove to culman, muscle shoals, Florence, athins, huntsville, decatur, and moulton, and only came up w/ one more set. However everyone of those walmarts had shelves full of the other Buck set and gerbers knife set. Everybody sold out of this Nobleman set. The price of another scale would not have changed that I think. This is one of those times that I think Buck got sloppy. I chaulk it up to being a foreign knife so what do ya expect. It always gives me the feeling that Buck looks at it like that also. I don't think Buck expect it's American customers to expect much from the Chinese made knifes so it don't hold em to their standard.

LOL, I have to laugh a little thinking about this. What I believe happens is that Walmart tells Buck (I'm sure they set the price point, not Buck), "we want umpteen million knife sets in a nice "collector tin" that we can sell for $20 at Chrismas time. Buck then figures that out and says "here's what we can make for you at a cost that you can sell them for $20". Many folks will buy them for the tin itself, much more appealing than a cardboard box, especially for a gift.

Heck, a plain jane SS Nobleman sells all over the place for $18 to $20 itself and the plain wood Deuce goes for $14 to $15 so even though the Nobleman is only fancy on one side, the set is still a bargain. Like I said before, I have a high dollar Buck/Mayo CF TNT that only has the fancy stuff on one side. It's never bothered me one bit.

I remember when Walmart sold the Founders Edition 110 in the tin. At my store, they were less $$ than the standard 110. They had nicer wood and a mirror polished blade and are great looking knives. That one too was fussed about because of the less expensive sheath that it came with!

You just might be on to something. Which like I said for me it doesn't really matter cause there not for me. I just hate bringing some body into the Buck world w/ this set. These aren't my grade of knife and I'm not a knife collector per say. I have multiple Bucks because I haven't wore em out and my kids love to get em for me. I know some of yall guys buy em just to have em in a case or shelf and in that situation I reckon this is perfect.
