I use W40 here but it vaporizes really quick, then the protection wont last very long. Machine oil can last longer.

Cotherion once mentioned he sprayed some WD-40 into a disposable cup and cover it with saran wrap overnight.
Wait till the spray condensed into fluid and apply on your blade.
