Ken:

That is an impressive chest......what type of wood did you use ?

Peter

I've been wondering about this as well.

I use some small plastic baskets that can stack and fit in my safe easily. Knives are sorted (somewhat) by types, etc. I keep one on my desk for weekly rotation ..

Love the chest, great work! (I have built a couple chests, but don't keep my valuables in it. (I worry about kids, robbery, fire, etc. )

Thank you Peter. The case is cherry, and the drawer fronts and all the panels are redwood burl veneer. Wenge is the dark accent wood around the drawers and along the insides of the panels. It is definitely one of the most challenging things I've ever made so far.

After recently getting all my knives out and finding some I haven't seen for years and some I forgot I even had, I bought this.

NO, it's not full of Fiddlebacks :(

I still have most of the knives I've owned since I was a kid. Some are cheap, some are nice, but all have fond memories.

All are now in this roller cabinet that matches my gun safe on the other side of the room.

( I allowed extra space to expand my Fiddleback collection :D )

I use similar metal cabinet but form US General
knives are heavy
the good thing that it has a lot of thin drawers so you can put it in 1 layer

I knew you were quite the woodworker after seeing the keyhole scales but that chest is absolutely stunning. Very nicely done Ken.

A little shameless self promotion here. :D I built this for myself a few years back to hold my knives -

Thank you C_S.

I had very good teachers. Without them there is little doubt I could have created something like this.

I'm afraid I have to compliment you on your chest as well Ken, I would definitely buy something like that if I ever came across it. Absolutely gorgeous, I wish I had the skills to make something like that

Hey Ken,
How about making some Fiddleback knife chest/case?
I got first dibs....

I did think about doing a smaller version - 2 drawers along with the top opening. This way it could sit on a dresser or desk, which this one is too big to do.

Well there you go Ken derailing a perfectly productive thread with your incredible craftmanship!

Very nice Ken!

Thanks to everyone that contributed.

At this point I am thinking I should dedicate the secretary to my knife collection and find something for the rest of it's contents.

Ken It's been said repeatedly but that chest is beautiful. That is really stunning work.

My set up is simple. I use wooden tool chests. The I picked the one on the left up a Lowes a few years back and the one under the desk at Harbor Freight.

(Sorry there is poor lighting in this room so it makes cell pics difficult)

I keep my fiddlebacks in one of my desk drawers, I keep slipjoints and modern folders in a Gerstner (i think, it is a hand me down) nearby. The fixed blades fill up the small drawers on it quite quickly.

Ken... wow! Do you have a website with your wood work?
