Storing blades

Petroleum Jelly. Works just as good as any oil but stays on for longer.
For garden tools that live outdoors linseed oil applied with a brush will form a sort of hard lacquer.

Some oils will stain carbon blades won't it?

I have never heard this claim before. Does anyone have actual experience with oil staining steel???
