Storing knives without boxes???

The question I have is, what is a good way to store folding knives without boxes. Is there a place I can buy boxes, say, the size of a typical case brand box. I can't seem to find generic plain boxes of that size. I often buy knives that come without a box, and don't want to just sit them in a safe without any protection from rolling around and putting more scratches on it. Any good solutions?

I've used one of these with good results for years.
(Search for "knife roll".)

I stopped using boxes years ago. I store my folders in a Spyderpac. No rolling around, no scratches. Easy, efficient and even portable storage.

Outstanding quality for the money and far superior to a box.
(( Do not link to eBay.))
So I try to help a fellow member by linking an Ebay seller who sells soft cases at a really good price. I am not the seller, nor will I be compensated in any way, yet the link is pulled and I receive a warning. The member who initiated the thread was looking for an economical way to store his knives. I suppose if anyone is looking for a knife or knife related product, you can't link any seller who isn't paying his BladeForums dues. Seems to me that the members are the ones missing out. There is a big difference between a blatant spammer and posting a link to help a member find what he's looking for.

I make these knife rolls myself.
They work well to keep the knives stored without getting marked up.

I made a mockup a few years ago and tried to get my daughter to sew it for me but she never had time. I've switched to tackle boxes:

you are better off avoiding cardboard since that will cause more of a moisture problem over time. I'd go with any of the methods listed so far.

Zero Tolerance sells a knife storage case that holds 18.

While I love KAI, I dont love their knife back, it actually sucks. They fall apart pretty quick . I have one that fell apart the stitching was done horribly. This happened I assume because it was not assembled correctly or they are just cheaply made. Bought 5 years ago (fell apart within 14 months) with a Lg Spyderpac and the Spyderpac is so much more well made, and holds many, many more knives. No stitching on that has frayed or even fallen apart.

For knives that are out of EDC rotation I use an assortment of Spyderpacs, KAI bags and some generic knife bags. For knives that are in my current rotation I have a couple of Akro-Mills Parts Storage Cabinets...one with 64 drawers and one with 16 drawers. I cut a little piece of Rubbermaid shelf liner material and put it flush in the bottom of each little plastic drawer. Then I label each drawer (alphabetically because I'm OCD) with a label maker and I'm good to go. The 64 drawer cabinet holds knives in current rotation, the 16 drawer cabinet holds my most often used and loved EDC knives.

Yeah, I have a knife problem.

...and...if I had to store all my knives in their original boxes, I couldn't have as many knives as I do. I do keep my boxes, they just get boxed up and stored.
