A year or so ago, maybe three, there was a Camillus "Cuda Maxx" folding dagger offered on e-Bay at a top dollar price point. It was still in its factory sealed box. No one bought it till it was relisted with the box opened.
Our son has a Randall #16-1 "Special Fighter" bought for him some 20 years ago. It could have a current value three times its' purchase price if pristine. It is not. He wore it in a non-Randall "combat" sheath on his plate carrier or on a drop-leg rig for weeks at a time outside the wire while deployed with the Marines in Iraq in 2004/"05. He used it and sharpened the top false edge (modified it) etc. No Randall collector wants that one for the wall or vault.
;Back into the way-back machine and off to the camera world: I have seen a gold-plated combative issue camera , a boxed set with lens and extra stuff, that had never been opened. It was said that it would have dropped in perceived value by 20% to 40% if even the shrink wrap had been removed.
Some collectors are just crazy.
