Storing stuff in the handle scales

Ethan, your design is very nearly perfect as is. I have a Camillus BK7, and will eventually have one (or more) for my son. I only switched the screws because I always have a SAK with me. I darkened them by setting them on a stove burner for a minute, then dropped them in a glass of water.

IMPORTANT: If anybody does this (darken them with the stove burner method), use stainless steel screws only. DO NOT use zinc-plated screws - heating up zinc like that can release nasty fumes. (I learned this from a friend who works in a finishing shop.)

If you don't have or carry a SAK, you can carry one of those Craftsman 4-way screwdrivers that cost $1 at Sears. If the screws are stuck, wedge it in a split stick, and it'll work fine.

Like I said, I only carry waterproof matches, but a 'cut-kit' like the one mentioned by Bridgeman has merit too.

Hey Chris

You are a person of taste AND discernment !!!!.....I slip a sak rucksack in my left front pocket before I leave the bedroom EVERY morning.......I usually have another folder with a more expensive pedigree that I think of more as working jewellery than the sak which gets the real workout and is cheap to replace when I lose it, give it away or start an engine with it.....I love my new AG Russell framelock and carry a Ka-Bar Dozier designed Phat Bob or a Sebenza or a Tom Mayo (now that guy does CEAN design work and his execution is freaking awesome) decisions, decisions, decisions.........That left pocket also contains a Bic and a good 140 plus(I think) lumen Romisen light.......If I am home a pair of thin elkskin riding gloves is stuffed somewhere.......But, I digress.....The suture kit and a fire maker- why not ????.....Maybe a tinder quick or two....

All best....
