Storm Proof Match containers

Since we have the "how to waterproof matches" thread I thought I would add a way of storing Storm Proof Matches. Originally this idea came from a thread K_Estela did on Knifeforums I think. I don't recall seeing it on here before.

Basically you take a Nalgene 2oz. Wide Mouth container and store your REI sized matches in them.

Below is my version of this. I think Kevin had the striker elsewhere.

You can also use the Ozark Trail or Coghlans match containers, but they don't hold as many matches. Also the NATO Lifeboat matches aren't as long as the REI Storm Proof Matches so I tend to buy the REI matches.

It's great when you can get them on sale. :D

Not sure what type of matches and striker you use but one of the main problems with wet ordinary matches is the striker getting damp and tearing when used.

To prevent that you have to either protect the striker inside the sealed container (ordinary location is inside the cap) or use some water proof striker (waterproof sandpaper or emeri cloth).

Stromproof matches are generally strike-on-the-box matches. That means you need a dedicated striker, and those are generally not waterproof. That's also what makes strike anywhere matches popular: striker can't fail.
Ideally you'd get strike-anywhere-stormproof-matches but not sure anyone does those, maybe maybe making you own by dipping strike anywhere matches in paraffin.
