DaveReb.... that "gritty" sound comes from the detent ball rubbing against grind marks on blade. It will wear a tiny circular "ball race" groove and the gritty sound will go away. You can see were Spyderco has manually polished the grind marks to smooth this out.

Enjoy your Leafstorm....It's one hell of a knife...I just love that Euro look.
