Story from my town; local kid punished for being honest

This kid by all accounts was trying to do the right thing. He surrendered his pocket knife before entering the game, only to be booted from the game and handed a 10 day suspension. The school district (a wealthy one, I have to surmise his family doesn't belong to the local country club) is citing a zero tolerance policy for the harsh punishment. His uncle called the local radio station today to say that expulsion is not off of the table. Apparently he had been carrying the knife earlier in the day preparing a tree stand location or something of the sort, forgot he had the knife and went straight to the game.

WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN???

That's ridiculous. All this is going to teach him is next time he forgets, don't tell anyone because when he's done the honest thing, it just gets him in trouble.

I read that article on "The Blaze". In another time I'd say he should have been honest but in today's world he should have just kept it to himself.

It's getting a little crazy now. I heard of a little girl that got expelled for bringing a plastic butter knife in her lunch. I don't know how much truth there was to that, but the way sheeple react, it's probably true. Sucks for that kid. With his honesty and integrity he will probably be a Police officer!

I'm local to the area and have been following the story, this is the world we live in..

Wow. Don't know what else to say. This is ridiculous. The other comments are right; it makes more sense these days to lie just to protect yourself.

I carried a pocket knife to school 5 days a week for my entire life. I never took it out in class, but i also never left it home. It was, is, and always will be part of my wardrobe. It's not optional, and i have never given a damn about rules telling me not to bring it. The only exceptions i can think of are places with metal detectors and guards. Other than that, my knife goes where i go.

You can stab someone on the playground with a sharpened stick... you don't need a knife. Just look at prisons. People get stabbed ALL THE TIME and they are strip searched. People need to grow up

To reporters every knife is a hunting knife and every gun is an AK-47

Truly ridiculous this world we live in.

I wonder if we will progress to the point where only crayons are allowed in school because, after all, a pencil or a pen can be used as a stabing instrument.

I had my ZT0600 with me when I went to a major golf tournament - I just carry my knife with me everywhere and did not think twice.

On entry, they were "wanding" people with metal detectors.

I just pulled the knife out of my pocket in my hand with the program for the tournament and held the knife and program over my head while they wanded me, and then I entered and re-pocketed my 600.

I wonder if our friends at Knife Rights will intervene on the subject of the original post?

I carry a blade to school sometimes as a tool of, course there is a strict policy against knives, but tons of people have them. I have no problem at after school events. Only carry for like woodshop days.

I was stabbed at school with a pencil as a kid, 1978ish. what now folks? Maybe I should invent the break away writing instrument. Go do demonstrations of pen and pencil stabbing wounds on dummies. Don't laugh I could retire off the UK alone. :D

Ok everyone get out your crayons and round pieces of paper. I hope everyone can see the clear example of a police state...

I grew up in the 70's and would give up everything I own if we could go back to the way things were then. No computers, no cell phones etc. I would give it all up. People are way to critical, rules and laws have gotten out of hand. I was trapping while in Hi school and checked my traps before and after school and kept a 22LR in rack by the rear window of my pickup which I drove to school every day along with ammunition and sometimes a shotgun from hunting grouse before school. I also kept a knife in my pocket. Everyone knew and did not care or bother them. People were honest and trustworthy in general. Arguments were handled in words or on an occasion with a fist but no one pulled a knife or gun. I don't think it even entered anyone's mind. As I said and I say it all the time. I would give it up and go back in a heartbeat. The world was a simpler place. Some of the things are better for sure but I am afraid we have it all wrong now. My wife works for the local school district and everything she does or says including how she says it is directed by the district in order to keep them from being sued.
