Story from my town; local kid punished for being honest

I believe they are called a compass (Sounds the same as the thing you use to find your direction). A sharp tip on one end, and a pencil holder on the other, with an adjustable wheel/screw to change the size of the arc/circle.

A protractor is one of those half-circle devices used for determining angles.

And those were Killgar's learning tips for the day :D

Yup thats the thing right there. No permanent damage was done but he still had to go to the hospital. This was a good 5 years ago though. Apparently I'm not nearly as old as a lot of you guys on here lol.

The whole thing is almost unbelievable and so ridiculous, especially to those of us that grew up (teenage) in the 70's and 80's.

My high school also had a designated area for kids that smoked (9-12) and no one ever thought anything about it.

But bottom line the kid did the right thing once he realized he had violated the rule.

My father knew me so well that he could tell when I was lying with 95% accuracy and if I was lying I soon would meet the belt.

In this case he would have told the school to go to hell, my kid did the right thing.

I never feared the school...I DID fear what would happen to me when I got home.

The problem with most zero tolerance policies is the administrators think they are enforcing the law. They are not, they are not police or prosecutors or judges. Any school board can craft a policy that makes no practical sense and violates actual law, but the principal will sentence a student to suspension or expulsion anyway.

i have to say that in this situation the kid was in the right and for once the adults were in the wrong. with that said i read early in this post about some one growing up in the 70s and how he had guns in his vehicle for hunting before and after school i personally graduated in 2006 in a small mountain town in northern cali that was still like that even after the school shooting that took place in colorado. i carried at least 2 knifes on me at all times a pocket knife and a schrade 4in drop point hunter on my belt the only person who gave me grieve about the exposed fixed blade was my liberal english teacher. with that being said its interesting to see how one area can still hold on to a few older values while the rest of the world goes down the crapper around it.

Evan thanks for sharing but politics doesn't have a whole lot to do with hysteria. My high school metal shop teacher let people smoke outside and didn't report the prison-like weapons he'd find kids making times have changed.
