Straight edge secondaries

I've never quite been able to warm up to 3 blade knives. If I go the rout of a three blade I much prefer a whittler pattern since( in my very limited experience) they seem to be a little slimmer. Plus, I would much prefer a pen over a spey.
Case makes a good medium stockman with clip, sheepsfoot, and pen blade. Just make sure to check it in person for gaps, rubs, etc. I have one in SS that I never use because the snap feels weak to me and I have my Northfield, but its really a manageable size.

I figured I would bump this thread up to show off my new additions and hopefully see some of y'alls.
My collection has grown a little bit. I have started appreciating single blade knives for certain occasions, but my heart still belongs to two blade patterns with a (preferably small) secondary straight edged blade. It just seems the most versatile to me and my lifestyle.

I added the '16 forum knife, because the punch is acute enough to act as a scribe.
And here are two knives I plan to modify at some point. I will be picking up another peanut to perform the operation on. This example is just too nice to start hacking up!

I also have expanded my (dream) list of knives I want to pick up that fit my criteria: GEC 09, 33, 79, and 85, S&M office knife(?), and a USA Schrade 93 ot.

If you're handy, you can make this happen (the influence came from Mr. blackmamba):

That's a GEC #66 Bullwinkle J. Moose. A clip point main and a straight edge secondary is ideal for me, too. I carry it pretty much every day, because the pulls are perfect, the knife is solid, yet elegant, and the Northfield trim on this knife is just tops.

I also have this same knife but with stockman blades, so a clip main, sheepsfooot secondary on the same pivot, and then a spey on the opposite end. The knife has been sitting because I'm tasked with cleaning off some pretty foul smelling cold blue from all the blades and springs, but I'll probably carry that one, too, when it's done. I do find myself wondering what I'll do with that 3rd blade, though...

Great looking knives and modifications, everyone. I'm in agreement as to the use of a small straight edged secondary blade. If I'm carrying a knife that doesn't have one, I often throw a #18 Coyote in my pocket as well, just to have a pocket scalpel with me.

I look forward to seeing your modified blades. I picked up a used yellow peanut for my first attempt at wharnifying a secondary:

When I got a #14 boy's knife, I seriously considered doing the same thing, but after marking it, decided that the blade is too long and narrow. I suppose after years of use and sharpening it might end up that way anyway. Or I could make it into a very thin punch...hmm...

Erik - what is the red one in the middle? I like the looks of it.

I am focused on finding the perfect clip + wharncliffe or Clip + sheepsfoot. I was looking for a full size straight edge, but have recently decided a small secondary straight edge is my preference.

Traum, that 66 looks stellar!

Rachel, your peanut was the inspiration behind this mod. I don't know when I'll get ahold of a second 'nut to do the work on, but it would definitely be a cool trick to have in the bag. It would open up so many possibilities...

Rishma, that is a S&M horticulture knife. I was tipped off of it's existence when I first started this thread, and one just so happened to be on the exchange at the same time.

Kris, it's always a joy to get a peek into your impressive collection!

On the contrary side Schatt and Morgan has a limited run, 2 blade whittler in D2 with a Sheepfoot main, and a small clip secondary, opposite end. Don't know if it's 1 or 2 spring, but it looks incredibly useful as well as attractive. I think it pops up quick on the bay if you type in S&M half whittler. Definitely agree about the straight edge secondary, but I prefer an awl to anything else. Glad to see the forum knife getting used.
Thanks, Neal

I don't have a picture, but my GEC 18 has a straight edge secondary and is a terrific little knife:thumbup:

Well, thanks to Ed's recent Christmas Eve giveaway I have discovered another must have that has managed to fly under my radar, the Boker LE evergreen 2 blade stockman in olive wood. After a quick search I found one. I had decided to purchase a knife this morning, so when I saw this one earlier tonight I knew I had to pick one up. The relatively small numbers means that I might not see one of these for sale for a while.

I'm not a huge fan of stainless, but then again I can't be too picky when looking for a knife with this blade combo. It's also a bit bigger than I have been carrying lately.
This will be my first Boker. I was also happy to see what looks to be all flush pins. The olive wood looks real nice too. This one seems like it will be pretty close competition to my 15 forum knife. Same blade selection, both have nice wood covers, both about 4", and both are all stainless blades and construction.
This one should be arriving on my birthday, so that's just icing on the cake!

I've never thought of myself as a collector, but I have recently seen finding two blade knives with a straight edge secondary as a bit of a challenge. They are quite tough to locate once you get passed the recent GEC runs. The more I discover and purchase the more I want to seek out other offerings just for the sake of a nice and varied collection.

Wow! I was admiring that Boker in Eds GAW, but you took it to another level. Congrats on finding one.

I highly recommend Solingen made Bokers, I think you'll be pleased. Congratulations on finding that one.

Merry Christmas, and here's to the Straight Edged Secondary.

Ahh yes, merry Christmas everyone!
Thanks Rishma. I guess it was just perfect timing.

R8shel, which Buck is that? I knew that Buck had atleast a model or two that fit my preferences, but I never looked into which models specifically.
And that esquire looks great! The ebony version is probably the one I admire most.

Here's a (HORRIBLE) spur the moment photo of the lovely coping blades that are accompanying me tonight and tomorrow.

The Buck is a 372 Muskrat, but I don't think it's in their regular production. One of my silly holiday traditions each year is to go to the big box stores and check out the Buck Knives gift tins. Usually a set of two folders from their Chinese import line in some "limited edition" configuration or handle material. These were from last year, and I found it amusing that it's kinda close to a poor man's 2015 Forum Knife.

I really like that NF Barlow with the coping blade. Did it come that way or was it modified? I don't know how traditional to the Barlow pattern that is, but I sure like it!

It came that way. It was the second to last run, and I fully agree with you. I was really hoping to see it make an appearance on the latest clip run.
