I have had a factory second, double stamped, never finished, Solingen straight razor in my stash for years.
Finally I got an idea of what to do with it. Fixed blade neck/back pocket knife.

Smoothed out and acid etched the whole thing.

Put it through a semi polishing and blued the blade.

Made the handle and attached it using copper for the pins.

I think it came out pretty nice for my first neck knife.
Now I need to make a sheath...

what would the functionality be for that kind of knife, emergency shaving?? haha

all kidding aside its really nicely done, you may want to make a kydex sheath with a felt lining in it for that particular steel so it wont rust while sheathed

Keep in mind some places, carrying a straight razor is illegal. Other than that great work!

It could handle shaving if I was ever that desperate.
But then again I've never been stranded on a desert island with expectations of attending a fancy dress party...Ha!

Thanks y'all for all the compliments and encouragement!
I really enjoy doing projects like this.

I tried to get some natural light, contrasting shots to show just how vibrant the color is...
The fly liked it too... didn't see him till I looked at the pics on the computer.

Nice work! Very unique and unconventional method. I like this, it's kinda like a broader sheepsfoot blade. Nice work using an old razor to make something awesome!

Why is that? People afraid of a madman giving them a shave and a haircut?

Nice bit of work, how'd you fill the space for the partial tang & curved tail? Looks complicated.

Also, how thin is the blade?

The handle is a two piece that has a carved interior to fit the tang shape with some grey spacer material at the edges.

The blade is razor thin as was originally intended.
I thought about taking it back a way so the edge would be thicker, but then the whole idea and the visual aspect would have been lost.

If I recall, legislators didn't like the fact that they were faster to open than switchblades so they made them illegal to carry.

Also they tended to be carried mostly by blacks instead of knives when there were laws prohibiting blacks from carrying weapons.
