straight,serated,or combi?

I prefer plain edge. It works best for my EDC knife usage.

Serrated is fine for cutting rope or garden hose, but I almost never do that. Ever try to peel an apple with a serrated edge? Its not pretty - but I have no doubt it can be done. And serrated is more difficult to sharpen.

A combination is fine and dandy, but leaves too little of each flavor IMO.

There you have it.

I agree. My knives are either completely serrated or completely fine-edged. Most of them are EDC options, so most of them are fine-edged.

I agree as well. Most of my daily things can be usually accomplished with a PE. I do use a full SE for other things.

I, by nature, simply hate combination edges---it either leaves too short of a section of PE, or too short of a SE, to get the job I'm attempting to perform done.

All my knives are either fully serrated or fully plain edge; I generally carry a fully serrated Spyderco Military inside the waistband and a smaller, more sheeple friendly EDC in my right front pocket---something like a T Mag, G10 Delica, Caly3, etc.

Plain edge or .. well plain edge. I really don't use a knife for anything that the serrations could do THAT much better.

Plain edge for me,i have some half serr that i have had for years, but a pe is easy to keep sharp.........

Plain edge.I can get them pretty sharp but when it comes to serrated I've tried but just can't get the hang of it.My plain edge kinives are definatly sharp enough for what I use them for.

Fully serrated for a fighting knife, plain edge for everything else. The combo edge manages to be a poor version of a plain edge and a poor version of a serrated edge all rolled into one.

I only have one combo edge that I haven't sold, and the only reason for that is because it's a Kershaw Vapor that I only paid $20 for.

I hate part serrated. It's unnecessary, and it looks ugly. I've passed up more than a few deals on combo edge versions of knives I've wanted, and I won't buy a knife if it only comes in combo edge.

I've been meaning to try Spyderco's full serrated.

Its quite simple,whats your prefrence?

This thread keeps rearing it's head.

At the end of the day it really depends on what you use the knife for and how you sharpen. Odds on the replies will be PE:SE at least 3:1 - any bets?

Interesting you should say that because EVERY knife dealer at the gun shows I've talked to says they sell many more combo edges than plain ones.

Maybe the preferences are different between real knife people and casual buyers (like gun people buying their one and only knife at a gun show).

People who aren't "into" knives think that the combo edge looks cooler. I was at BPS and some guy needed a knife - "Hey, honey, look at this .. it has a mini saw on the blade, lets get this one"

Something along those lines anyway.
