straight,serated,or combi?

Plain, plain, plain.
Serrated blades are for bread knives :D

I once bought a half serrated folder and I hated it. I've never used it since.

plain all the way-i've only owned one combo in my life, and NEVER will do that again- plain worls best for me and is easy to sharpen and hone- serrated isn't

I know they're not much liked around here---but I always come back to the combo edge---it just works for me.

I have exact same models with plain or combo-----and serrated or combo---the combo gets the pocket time and the others sit.

I'm starting to like plain a lot more these days, but anything over ~3" with combo is fine too.

One of the main reasons I carry a plain edge is because it just looks less dramatic to people who does not appreciate knives.

im a combo man myself i find that sometimes a good serration pattern (kershaw being my personal favorite) can make any tough cutting task a world easier

Interesting you should say that because EVERY knife dealer at the gun shows I've talked to says they sell many more combo edges than plain ones.

Maybe the preferences are different between real knife people and casual buyers (like gun people buying their one and only knife at a gun show).

I didn't say what people "buy" - I was betting on what the BF response would be based on previous posts on this subject. Serrated edges of various types appeal to people who don't know/bother to keep their knives sharp as you can continue to saw your way thru even when the serrations are blunt = majority of people. Hopefully that is not the psyche of BF members

My last rough count was 15 PE, 5 SE/combo and 4 50:50 so discounting the latter 3:1 is still looking good

People are probably just used to it. Sometimes you can even get CE knives cheaper, depending on demand.

Plus, I've seen a lot of major Outdoor stores tend to carry only the Combo Edge version of a knife.

Plain edge! If needed, I can always make the edge toothy and aggressive.

If I'm going to have a serrated knife, I would prefer it to be full serrated instead of combo.

Plain edge for me.

If you find yourself slicing a lot(cutting rope, etc..), just sharpen with a coarser grit and you'll be fine. Serrations are a pain to sharpen.

I hate part serrated. It's unnecessary, and it looks ugly. I've passed up more than a few deals on combo edge versions of knives I've wanted, and I won't buy a knife if it only comes in combo edge.

I've been meaning to try Spyderco's full serrated.

It allows you to use it in a defensive manner while still retaining properties of plain edge. In defensive role plain edge often has a hard time slicing thru leather during lashing movement. full serrated knives don't make the best edc since they tend to mangle everything.
