Question that I hope will get many different opinions. If you were stranded, in the woods or in a jungle etc. what one knife in your arsenal would you hope you had brought with you. Which "one" would you bet your bacon on to get you through what could be a very long time.....for everything from making shelter, making hunting tools, cleaning game, cleaning fish, cooking, protection if needed....etc. The one you would bet it all on. With the thinking that you did pack some gear for a two day trip, no one plans to get stranded, so if it accidently happened which one would you hope to have with you! Pictures would be greatly appreciated too if you have them. Anything goes that you feel would be the "one" you would want....everyting from a folder to a chopper.

For the woods that I would visit around here, an axe.

For the jungle, a machete.

Those are my choices if I had nothing else with me, but seeing how I would probably be backpacking in order to get that lost, I would likely already have shelter, etc. so a good 4" belt knife would do me just fine. And I always carry one when outdoors.

If I was in the jungle I think I would still want a machete too.

I put my Umnumzaan to the test and it passed with flying colors  I've always been a big folder person 'cause I can carry it everywhere and it's what I would have on me anyways.

For the points you mentioned:
1. Shelter
2. Tools
3. Cooking
4. Game
5. Protection

1. I would most likely have a tarp with me for shelter, so downing a few 1-2 inch thick "poles" would be the most I'd have to take down anyways.
2. Tools - I'd make a few wedges for batoning, get a stone hammer made, maybe even a mortar and pestal out of wood to make guacamole :p
3. Cooking - I'd most likely have my BSA 5-in-1 pot and pan set (with a fork, spoon, knife combo on the side) so that wouldn't be very difficult.
4. Game - I'd go fishing first as that's what I'm good at and I'll have my small fishing kit with me anyways. If all else fails, I could make a few snares, my personal favorite is the spring loaded one with the tree and line (like on looney toons).
5. As for protection - I'm thinking about hogs, pumas, and even two legged critters in my neck of the woods, so a fire hardened spear and some brown pants ought to cover that field very well (brown pants are for secondary defense mechanism which bursts out in times of dire situations  :D)

I think that about covers it, I like single bladed folders, I'm sure there will be a thousand "SAK" responses, I carry one too, but for long term I'd stick with a single bladed folder, in this case it's my Umnumzaan.

My Bark River Aurora because I am the most comfortable with it. I have no worries about any of my knives, but I just feel better with that one.

brkt golok. hands down out of all my blades it'd be the best one in the jungle.

+1. I think this is good advice, stingray.

I think I'd do ok with my Vic. Outrider, but I'd prefer to have a BK9 or 14'' Tram bolo with me as well.

Don't ususally post in these inquiries...but

12in H.I. villager AK.

or, more likely...

the knife I have with me. Usually an Old Timer 8OT.

the first, ideal; the second, always there in my pocket.

Any knife that I own and would typically pack with me in the outdoors would do the trick.....That is why I chose them in the first place...

I would take an RC 6. It is big enough to do what I want, while not being too big to do smaller tasks, even if not the best.

I would guess my Leatherman Wave, but in most cases I would have my full every day carry options as well. If my vehicle broke down in the woods, I would have a lot more options. :)

while I could fairly easily get away with one of my 5" blades. My choice in such a case would definitely go to my M-43 kukri.

A fairly thin but stout five inch blade knife would do just about everything in the woods, Jungle, A good 14 inch Machete.

Any high-quality fixed blade would have me feeling somewhat well-equipped. I think I'd prefer my Busse SARsquatch.

Stay sharp,

I keep knives based on this same thought...so pretty much any of the fixed blades I have on hand I'd feel comfortable with. But if I had to pick one in particular it would likely be this one, but I did design it to suit my uses.

Hi all,

Well since I carry this pack with me pretty much everywhere when out and about while woodsbumming.

I carry the knife and hatchet on my belt.

I carry the normall stuff that is going to help me out right now. Shelter, water and tools. Time might not be on my side as to a weather front comming in( knowing how to build a shelter is great and should be practiced) but building a shleter in the rain or cold or both is not my idea of being prepared.

Being stranded can sure happen and it really makes that situation that much easyer to deal with when you have your prepared pack with you.

So to answer your ? here is what I will sure try to have with me if I were to get stranded.
