Stranded

Around these parts, and north, probably a big blade, like my BK1 or BK9.

Jungle +1 on the machete, probably a 14" or so.

I am not an expert at living in the woods with just a knife but if I were stranded and had to spend the night in the woods I would want a knife that could cut wood to make shelter and bedding in case my other shelter was lost ,torn, or just blew away. It would have to be able to get to dry wood for fire making even if it had been raining for days straight. I would want it to be able to make a speedy litter in case I had to carry someone out with me.
For those reasons I usually carry a good hatchet with me in the winter, and a stout 7 to 10 inch bladed knife like the Busse Basic 7 or something similar or a SR Ratchet or BJ made Becker Campanion(both can chop well) in the late spring thru early fall. I also always have a SAKw/saw on me,and usually a Frost Swedish Army knife or other Frost pukko. If I lived farther north I would carry a full size axe(probably a GransforsBruks or maybe a modified Snow and Neally) with me. I like to have a machete(not Chinese made) with me also and would definately have one with me in some areas of the country/world.

Bryan, if you have time could you make another thread showing your kit and what you have in it and why, or point me to a thread that already does that? Also could you explain the reasoning for the design of that unique looking fixed blade you have in your kit? Thanks in advance for doing that if you get the chance and I certainly understand if you don't have the time.

Hi M, sure I can start a new thread On Survival kits look for it today LOL.

Also as to my belt knife that is called the Warthorn knife and it was designed by mistwalker here on the forums. The thread that mistwalker started is called Breeden number 3 and fire under wet conditions it is on page 2 right now if you want to see more pics and info on it.

Also I ment to say that if I was in a jungle area I would like to have along a longer knife. and if I was way up north I would put a axe with my kit.

Any knife that I own and would typically pack with me in the outdoors would do the trick.....That is why I chose them in the first place...

Well, that's no fun

If I'm caught with just one knife, than most likely I'm naked So, if I have a pack of stuff for a couple days and I'm naked with no belt or pockets...I would probably want my Siegel Hoodlum II in my pack. I just think the large chopper is good enough for most large and small tasks and is the most efficient at building a shelter.

I think it would be prudent to adjust based on season and latitude...up north as the temps are dropping, my GB SFA would be my choice and if down south and you can't go wrong with a 12" machete (especially the ones modified by Brian Andrews ).
