Strange Delica 4 Logo

Hey everyone, I just got a Delica 4 today. My first larger Spyderco knife. Otherwise I've only got a Grasshopper and a Bug.

My concern is that I ordered from Amazon and the logo looks a little funky. See the photo attached. Should I return it and order from a reputable dealer? I'm hoping it was just a flaw maybe from the factory, that'd be fine! I just want it to be legit.

Is there anything else suspect about the knife? Can you show more pics, including the box and barcode?

Doesn't seem to be anything else strange that I can tell. I don't really have anything to compare it to. The back spacer doesn't seem to be quite flush with the scales and the inside of the spyderhole shows some ridges, but from what I can find online this seems to be normal stuff.
I should add, the knife is hair popping sharp out of the box.

Oke, seems legit to me, but in other cases, I only owned 2 delicas. Both where stamped and quite deep in the metal.

Seen some replicas and most had spyderco and text that was written ( or how to cal it, the letters were like the logo ).

Your FRN handle looks good also, sharp corners on the grippy part, smooth edges and high finish.

Maybe it's a scratch on the spyderco logo?

And by the way, there are so many spyderco profs on this forum, they will help you for sure!

Thanks for your help! Yeah it's possible just a flaw in the printing or a scratch perhaps. It's the most expensive knife I've ever owned lol so I wasn't sure what level of quality control to expect. I know it's Japanese and all, hopefully I'll be able to afford a Paramilitary 2 in the near future, but for now this will be a good start for me to start learning to sharpen and hone with.

I use my delica every day! Great knife.
I also want to get my hands on a pm2, and a manix2, and a dragonfly2, and the list goes on [emoji12]

Looks to me like a blem, which is interesting since it's my understanding that Spyderco doesn't usually let those leave the factory.

Alternatively, the knife could have been scratched in transit somehow.

Maybe will be worth lots more 10 years from now if you keep it otherwise pristine. And so it begins, now you are a Spyderco collector and have to buy another for your EDC :D

Looks legit in all other respects.

Seems legit, just a blem in the logo. If you're not happy, return it. Personally, I'm a little picky and would probably return it - but that's just me. If I buy a knife new, I'm going to be the one to put scratches on it, not the factory.

Looks legit to me, I've bought like 5 frn delicas. You just got lucky and got one with a little character!

Looks like a legit knife with a blemish. It doesn't affect the functionality, but if that was me, I would return it just because it would bug my OCD.

That logo will fade out with use after time.

One on my HAP40 is already fading out from cutting fruit, and that knife is only just over a month old.

Forcing a patina is a great idea. There ya go. It'll look good and you won't have to stare at the blemish. The Delica is a workhorse.

The sheen on the VG-10 also looks correct (It has a unique look compared to S30V etc.) I'd say it's genuine, but with a blemished logo. If it's a user and not a safe queen I'd use it and enjoy it, and relish the fact that it's unique in some way from everyone elses.

Might not be able to force a patina onto VG10 since it is quite stainless, but you may be able to eat away at the logo filling and fade it out. (Probably what you meant, but just don't want some readers to get the wrong impression). :)

I thought you could even patina stainless with certain chemicals. My bad as the kids would say. Melting out the etching would work too. A Delica is a terrible thing to waste.

It's hard to overcome that year of mechanic's school 30 years ago where we could fail the class for having the slightest bit of rust or corrosion on our tools. I never was a mechanic for a living but it still goes against every instinct to allow a knife to patina, so I've never done it to any of my knives.

I've been hearing about this sheen. Any good image & explanation on the unique sheen and the difference between them?
