Strange Delica 4 Logo

I thought you could even patina stainless with certain chemicals. My bad as the kids would say. Melting out the etching would work too. A Delica is a terrible thing to waste.

It's hard to overcome that year of mechanic's school 30 years ago where we could fail the class for having the slightest bit of rust or corrosion on our tools. I never was a mechanic for a living but it still goes against every instinct to allow a knife to patina, so I've never done it to any of my knives.

Not sure, but maybe with some super harsh chemicals. Maybe anything aside from H1.

And patina happens naturally with use on knives with higher carbon content. Can't really avoid it.

I've been hearing about this sheen. Any good image & explanation on the unique sheen and the difference between them?

To me, it's a little bit like "orange peel" on a bad paint job on a car. Not that extreme, but that's how I'd explain it in my head. :p

Thanks for all the input! I'll keep it, it's going to be an EDC knife for me anyway. Glad to see it's legit though because my main reason for buying was the VG-10 blade, I did a lot of research and decided it was right for my application.

Sorry to say it won't remain pristine for 10 years that's for sure. It's going to get a deep carry clip and it's going to work.

I find that the light reflecting off of it seems to make the ridges of the grind marks look a little smoother than on some other steels (More rounded, etc.) but it's still clearly a satin finish that isn't rounded as from off from bead blasting or stone washing. It's a subtle difference, but noticeable, especially when you examine it side by side with another steel like S30V.

That's what we like to hear. Casey Lynch makes awesome deep carry clips and is great to deal with. This isn't a Delica but you get the idea...grab the longer size so that the clip rests on the smooth part of the scale so it won't chew through your pants.

Hey, that Delica looks familiar. :D

Well I am no professional however I just pulled out my stainless Delica 4 and compared it to your Seki City print..

- the SEKI-CITY printing on my blade matches the orange handled model here in this thread TO THE T !

I went to your photo bucket and magnified your picture - the side of the blade which states SEKI-CITY JAPAN and note the following:
- the J in JAPAN on your knife loops upward, on mine and the orange one posted here it simply juts straight left, NO LOOP UP
- the E in SEKI has a rounded not squared look to it, while yours is certainly square in its design
- the Hyphen between the I of SEKI and the C of CITY is touching both letters, on yours it does not
- your C in CITY is looped on the top and bottom of the character while the C on mine and the orange one posted here are straight

As well on the SPYDERCO side of the blade, again my letters shape and such match the ones on the orange model poster here, tall and narrow letters, evenly spaced - while the letters on your blade are short and wide and spacing not even throughout...

Hoping others will report on this, perhaps Spyderco has different stamping characters on different product runs...

Yes, to me it also looks like the letters are not stamped into the metal, as on my delica, the orange delica and probably your delica..

Well for what it is worth I pulled out my Rescue 93mm and my Civilian G10 - all Seki City blades as is my Delica 4 stainless - and the letters, spacing, characters nuances all match perfectly.

Just saying....best to ask an authority to be certain yours is not a replica...

I'm not an authority on knives, but there seem to be a few variations in the Seki markings on blades. Don't get paranoid about this, they change it up quite a bit.

My VG-10 blades are deeper stamped, and my most recent HAP40's are shallow markings and the "J" loops up. There are not any knock offs of the HAP40 run at this point in time...

I can post photos if you are really concerned.

Notice: Please send all blems and suspicious Spydercos here to me for prompt, er..disposal.

Radio Shack Etching Compound will force a patina on anything.

Here are my letters, don't know what the patina is? And you can not compare ghe frn handle due to the stainless handle..
