Fellow knife folk:
I sold a knife on a popular auction site on July 16, 2013. I shipped it immediately, and in accordance with PayPal's policy of anything of $250 (I think is the value) must be shipped with Signature required. I shipped USPS Priority with Signature Confirmation to a USA address (in Norcross, GA). The buyer was obviously a stateside buyer who I knew would be shipping the knife to someone overseas. Regardless, it was going to a USA address, confirmed through PayPal at that, so whatever they did with the knife after I delivered it wasn't my concern.
Well today (August 27, 2013) I received an email from PayPal that the buyer filed a claim about the item not being delivered. Since I was already wary of this in the first place, I retained my receipts from the post office. PayPal had already put my account into the negative on the presumption I didn't ship the knife. I immediately called PayPal after getting the email, and laid it all out for them. The rep took my info, and the USPS info, and put me on hold. After a few minutes, the rep came back to the call and said that my account was back to the original balance, and the claim was closed in my favor.
This is being posted as a warning to sellers, especially those who use that other site. Here is the info on the buyer in case anyone wants to keep an eye out:
User ID: koberovy289
PayPal ID: Ship-worldwide.com / obchod@cz-ebay.cz
Address: Cz-Ebay.cz/ Kral
450 S Cemetery St
Ste 104
Norcross, GA 30071-4226
I always have my ads setup to block bidders who have a bad track record. After going back to look at my item (which was nearing the 45-day point for PayPal, which I think is why they tried to steal back their money), it seems they tried to use 3 different ID's to bid/buy my item, but those were all automatically blocked.
Summary, keep your receipts and ship appropriately according to PayPal's and Bladeforums established practices.
