Street Beat

Fancier than beautifully sculpted micarta? I assume you posted this while sipping Louis tres in your Gulf Stream 3?

Liners, bolsters, more interesting colors of micarta, contrasting woods - there are plenty of things they could have done to make the handle look a bit more interesting. I'm not talking about fossilized dinosaur brain scales and a sperm whale scrotum leather sheath.

That's a fair point. Black micarta is nice but it's.. well.. black. Always in fashion, yes, but gets a little boring after a while. I try to opt for some other handle colours whenever available and possible. Red, green, brown, whatever. Just none of that smurf blue, thanks very much please and humblest apologies. :p

Street Beat is nice, but given the price point and intended purpose, would be nice to have fancier handle materials.

I'm also looking forward to the lightweight version - should make a great utility blade for lightweight camping, or a complement to a larger outdoors blade.
Personally, I'd love to see a bolstered version but I'd also suggest that the Street Beat is too fancy for its intended purpose as an edged weapon. The Lightweight's FRN will come closer to the mark, but paracord wrap, or skateboard tape, would be even more apropos.

I looked at the lightweight, but the classiness of the full tang and the micarta are worth both the price and weight for me

That's exactly the way that I feel about it. The Street Beat is my favorite small fixed blade. Love the ergos. Great carry, even inside the waistband.... You forget it's there. Solid, absolutely beautiful!

... and according to the published specs, the LW only loses 0.2 oz

I have had a lot of edc fixed blades (custom and production) and the street beat in my fav production edc sized fixed blade by a lot. The sheath is an easy fix with a little heat. My only complaint would be the vg10 doesn't seem to hold it's edge that long but it's easy enough to touch up.

I am the proud owner of a brand new SB! I love it! Only one tiny thing that I would change (so far). The blade side of the finger groove has unbroken corners. While this isn't a problem, the lack of a radius does cause the knife to shave off part of the sheath every time it is removed.

Sad that fixed blades can't be "concealed" in CA. I am not tucking in my shirt just to carry a knife I like. I can carry a giant folder in my pocket next to a gun and 10 extra mags if I want but god for bid forbid my shirt fall over a fixed blade knife.

Could be worse, you could be in MD and not be allowed to have the gun OR the "concealed" FB. Whoever would have thought I'd be saying you'd be better off being in CA when it comes to guns, but here we are. I sold my SB because of an inability to carry it practically.

Ha well I don't feel beer for either of is! N. CA is pretty much a different state than S.CA so I am lucky to have some positives.

I will still keep an eye out for a good price on SB.

I have carried the SB on a regular basis for about 6 years now and it still blows me a away how nice of a knife it is. Depending on what you like in handle shape and some of the other more "special snowflake" things we knife folks like the honk about, it's the best production fixed blade I have found yet for up to, and including, double the retail price. If you can get passed the funky handle shape (and there are plenty of folks that can't) and really use it, I think there is a very strong possibility that you will find your new EDC fixed blade.

I had one and it was AWESOME, great balance, size, fit & finish. However, I owned it for 3 month and never used it once or carried it once (illegal in CA) so I ended up selling it at a loss.

That's the thing with fixed blades, while they're cool, it just doesn't fit an urban life style without running afoul with the law and that's not worth the consequence.
