Just picked up a Spyderco Street beat. I love this knife! The sheath could be better but -what a knife. Anyone here have one of these fixed blade beauty's?

I want one. How would it make for a camp knife?

Depends on your definition of camp knife. If it means slicing dinner, cleaning game, cutting rope...etc. you know normal cutting stuff it works great. If you mean chopping fire wood, no it isn't going to work. ;)

Yea it should work then. I am in a tossup between the RAT-3 or a Street Beat. But the price of the RAT kills the street beat. Thats too bad. Who knows though, I should probably just not buy any of them and stick with my military for camping.

Had that knife been about 2 inches longer I would have kept it. It was just too short for my fixed blade needs. In my opinion Spyderco is really going to have to come up with a really super fixed blade to beat out the Temperance. I have used both of mine (PE & SE) this year and I am sure glad I got a few of them before they disappeared from the landscape.

I will say that the Street Beat truly did have very superior quality construction. Almost what you would expect from a custom blade. But it was just way to short for me. Glad you guys like it.

Well if you always purchase based on price you will quickly find all your goods are made in China...:D

The Rat-3 is very utilitarian and will serve you well. It even has a bit a handsome look to it...much like an army jeep.

The Street Beat will do the same work, but has a bit extra [insert appropriate French word here...perhaps panache']
