strength tests

CRK will continue to have their solid reputation and their loyal following regardless of what the man behind the mask says. Knives are made for cutting, period.......

Kind regards,

That was great!!

I think I saw a post on this recently, but i don't recall seeing a final answer to the question though.

You didn't. And you never will.

There is no definite answer to the ultimate knife but the hollow handle Reeves can be beaten on very hard and just as importantly can be sharpened easily in the field. A2 is an exceptionally tough steel from my own usage. One day when I am not in too much pain, I'll make a video of a hollow handle CR in action. Mind you, it won't be all that extreme but more related to traditional outdoor work and things you would do while camping or preparing food.

If they crash and destroy brand new cars to find week areas, why not knives.

I think anyone who thinks that is how to test a knife is nuts. In real usage, these knives are top shelf.

OK, guys, lets get to the heart of the matter. Noss4 does not do tests, he does demonstrations. He demonstrates how he can break knives.

When cars are tested to destruction, every aspect of the test is measured, every material, speed, and result. Without this total repeatability, the tests would be meaningless, since the manufacturers need to know exactly which system failed for what reason, and what it would take to strengthen it.

Noss4 bangs away with no way for anyone watching to be sure how hard and at what angle he is striking each knife. This leaves a lot of room for deceit. Were he so totally honest that he is not even subconsciously favoring one knife or one brand over another, he is still not performing a valid test. By not providing measurements of his actions, whatever he is doing cannot be evaluated. That what he is doing bears little resemblance to what the knives were designed for is another issue.

But he is dramatic, and those with little experience in these matters will be drawn to ask about it. Meanwhile, CRK continues to win annual Best Manufacturing Quality awards at the Blade Show without ever consulting the Great Hockey Mask.

Great Point, NOW can we leave this endless discussion behind and focus on what this page is supposed to be about. And thats posting pics of our favorite CRK and discussing our love for ALL the knives they make. Thats why I come to this page several times a day.

We should be more concerned that by the end of the year, CRK is going to stop making One-Piece Knives. These knives have been a stable of their company for 20+ years. The One-Piece line is what brought to my attention CRK and I purchased many of them before I even thought about a sebenza or mnandi.

We, the CRK nation need to focus our attention to the longstanding reputation CRK has been known for. By letting a whole day of posts go to noss4 and his tests, we are letting him win. Enough is enough, if you wanna do knife tests, fine, but only do them under controlled circumstances where they are fairly judged.

I am with you on the One Pieces.....the Shadow I is my all time favorite (I am glad I have a few:thumbup::thumbup:) To see them go just plain hurts!

And while Noss has NO basis WHAT-SO-EVER as "valid" test.....it is still interesting to see what a knife "can" take before failure. It is only under "uncontrollable" circumstances (Noss) that 99% would ever break a knife, because most of us know what a knife IS for.

I have many One-Piece knives, including 2 Shadow I's, they are awsome knives. I carry my shadow III around the cabin all hunting season long and I rely on it for all my cutting chores. I cleared shooting lanes and made a blind with my Tanto I and both of them work wonderfully. I will have to put my Shadow I to work this fall. The whole One-Piece line in awsome and it will be a sad day when they are gone for sure.

[SARCASM]But how can you possibly tell just how good the knife is without beating on it with a sledge hammer until it breaks?!?[/SARCASM] ;) :D

That's exactly what I would consider a valid test of a knife's quality/abilities.

I know, I found the one with the animation, I thought that was funny as hell. You should see the great debate in the general forums today.....Opinel VS Sebenza.........lol

I thought that thread was a lot of fun.

When I was in better health, I would use the Hollow Handles very hard with pleasing results. I will agree that the A2 HH fixed blades do not have as good of edge retention than most other fixed blades but I have always found them to be 1) exceptionally tough, and possibly most importantly 2) easy as cake to sharpen with mid to low quality sharpening tools, even if you have mediocre skills like myself

This should be the final word on this subject.
