Stretch lanyards?

I like to keep a lanyard on my EDC knife (fixed blade) so that I can switch grips easily and not have to worry about dropping it. Right now I have a short length of that black elastic waist rope from an old windbreaker. This is the stuff that is very stretchy and you tighten the waist with a small black plastic button spring clamp. This stuff is just too small and the ends don't stay glued. Any suggestions on an elastic lanyard material?

Phone curly cords with crimped loops. Actually issue for some tac teams and available made up or do it yourself.

The same sources also carry wind up cables also used by fly fisherman in rough water. They fasten to your belt just like key rings on chain reels.

I like 7-strand 550 paracord.... you can get it in a variety of colors (OD, black, desert, camo, white, orange, yellow, red) and even some glow-in-the-dark colors. It's cheap, strong, and functional, especially if you're a camper, hiker, and or insterested in survival techniques. I string it through my lanyard hole and then use a hangman's noose to coil it. On folders, the lanyard is short and on fixed blades it's longer. Not only will it help keep the knife from falling if you drop it, but you have the cord for emergency use.

NeedleRemorse, If I knew how to post pics, I'd show you some photos of what I'm talking about (you probably already know). Anyway, consider the paracord.... here's a link for the cheapest prices I've found http://www.countycomm.com/550cord.htm

There's another cord I like too, but I'm not sure what it is. It's a smaller diameter than paracord, it's braided, and it's waxed. It might be some kind of waxed jute cordage, I don;t know. I should google search it. If anybody knows what the stuff is, let me know.

Doesn't an elastic lanyard pose a risk of the blade snapping back at you if you lose your grip, like when chopping?

That's a good point, Dog of War. The stuff I'm using right now takes a good amount of force to stretch and doesn't make the knife snap back at all.

Try superglue to keep the elastic cord from fraying.

As for using a layard for knife retension when switching grips I thread my pinky though. Like this...
