Strider Alternative?

I had a Hest folder and I much prefer an SnG. I didn't like the Hest pocket clip, bottle opener( I don't need my knife to open on it's way out of the pocket), and it had a little too much belly for everyday use, for me.

Like others have already stated, if you want a Strider, you should wait for a Strider. If you're simply looking for a "hard-use" folder(whatever that means to the individual user), there are better, less expensive alternatives to high-end framelocks. My favourite knives are high-end production and I've carried them for years doing Front Line work without issue, but I'm under no delusion I "need" a Strider/Hinderer/CRK/LionSteel in my pocket to be able to perform my job.

From my last purchase, a Spyderco Dragonfly in H1, don't you think 50 dollars to 200+ is a big gap? I keep leaning toward the Adamas, but it seems really thick and sluggish. Personally, I hate assisted opening knives, so a good percentage of ZT isnt on my list. I look up to striders as a goal. In the mean time, I am totally indecisive. By the way, I prefer G-10 scales, which is why I'm limited on Benchmade. I'm not all for plastic-y scales.

The ZT 0550 is sort of similar because it's a titanium frame lock with G10 on the other side. It's fairly thick though and heavy maybe that's what you mean by "Hard use".

A Spyderco PM2 is sort of the same because it's a nice, light, thin, well engineered piece. I'm not a huge fan of the lock, some are, I have so many other frame/liner locks that the compression lock is just awkward.

The Benchmade 755 MPR is a small, brick like, little knife. It's similar construction as the Striders with the wrap around G10. It's got a shorter blade but I'll be cutting edge isn't that much different. I sold mine, kind of wish I hadn't now but I never used it.

The SNG is unique it looks pretty beefy yet it's very light and thin. It's pretty much perfect for me.

I also had an Adamas that I sold. I'm not a fan of the Axis lock but I really liked the knife. It does seem a little slow I guess especially compared to the 0550 that open like an auto. The Adamas does have a good feel to it though especially considering how thick it was (.7" if I recall), it's nicely contoured and a good looking knife.

Don't worry about the stepping up process. It'll cost you more in the long run. After getting 3-4 $100+ knives, you realize that you could have bought what you really wanted without having to worry about resell to get some money back or use the money to buy that Strider. It's the whole instant gratification vs long term build up.

If you've handled Axis folders, none of them are sluggish. They will deploy as fast as your thumb would flick. Adamas is a good offering, but I'll stand by my original statement of saving up. Enjoy what you buy and not look back. There is absolutely nothing like the SnG out on the market in terms of style and ergos. It's very unique. Every time I think about selling my SnG, I look at it and see that it's unique and definitely has a place in my rotation, so I just hang on to it.
