Strider AR or GB

Now start saving up to get an AR!:D:thumbup: Congrats on the GB!!

I think I'll pass on the AR. I'm more than happy with my GB. After I recieve my BT, I'll probably pick up an SMF. I need to hold off on that for awhile. I'm going broke with my hobbies(Guns, cars, and knives) The last month and a half I picked up a Microtech UT, 2 MT Halo 3, 1 HAK(1 is also on order), and 1 Strider GB. I'm also now waiting for my EKI cqc-11 and Strider BT to come in.

I know to a lot of people thats not a lot of money but its a considerable amount to me. Time to cool it.

GB is my favorite as well. The blade shape just suits me better. I like having the straight edge of a wharnie blade shape, coupled with the thick tip.

I have choped and batoned small wood with my GB just to do it while camping to see how well it works. While an Ax would be much better, I rarely have one when hiking and the GB works in a pinch. I have pried out staples (heavy wood staples) with the tip, and also used the butt to hammer in some sheetrock anchors before.

It's a good tool, and if the size and blade shape fit you, then you've found your tool. :)

Enjoy it,
John

How do you like the GB, now that you have it ?

I absolutely love it. I don't get shocked too often but when I pulled the GB out my impression was "Damn! Thats big." But it feels pretty good. It doesn't feel like a knife, more like a tool. I'm sure all the strider guys know what I mean. All my other knives I tend to think "This is nice. I better not abuse it too badly." With the GB its "This is awesome. I wanna beat the crap out of it."

I'm very happy with the GB over the AR as I ike the extra tip stength. Although I doubt the AR needs it, its still nice to have.

The blade shape definitly does but the grip is a tad big but not bad. I since I've always carried fairly thin folders, it feel a little odd. To be honest it feels like I'm holding a fixed blade or just a full size knife. I think this will be a very good thing under hard use.

Are you carrying it using the pocket clip, or are you using a belt sheath? My problem with the AR/GB knives was that they allowed too much handle(in my opinion) to stick out of the pocket. I saw an old post where someone had set there's up with a deep carry clip and mounted it using the frame screw. This allows the entire knife to go into my pocket with only the clip to be seen!

I'm used to tip down carry. So I'm used to grabbing the knife, and as I draw/raise my hand, I flip the blade and it is in the grip I use. I can do this as fast or fast than I can pull my microtechs(unless my hands are cold). I can't do this with tip up because I can't reach down far enough to have a good grip when I pop it with my thumb(The Gb has a heavy blade so I has to use a little wrist too) If the clip was pulled back anymore I wouldn't be able to have anywhere near a good grip when pulled fast. Not that I bought the GB as a defensive tool, but its nice to have options.

I hope when I get my cqc11, I can reach far enugh down to be efective with it.

Oh yeah, I use the clip. I don't want it near my gun on my belt and since I'm right handed, thats where it would be if I used a belt sheath.
