Do the new Strider knives come fitted with ceramic ball detent?
Going back, I have an "old" SnG S30V and the ball is almost worn flat, still does the job, but just wondering.

I believe that production Striders still use a steel ball decent. At least that's what the one I'm carrying right now seems to be and it's fairly new. I can't speak to the MSC and DDC models, they may have ceramic detent balls.

The Strider warranty covers everything, detent balls included.

All of mine appear to be metal, confirmed on customs as well.

Side note reply: Strider has done a custom engraving on an SMF for me, Replaced a broken AR blade and an SnG pocket clip that kept loosening up, all for
the cost of return shipping. So I would imagine that they will certainly fix any mechanical defects or things that affect the performance of the knife.

Easy enough to change over to ceramic as a DIY if you're handy. My SnG and SMF have benefitted greatly from it!

fwiw... Strider drilled the old ball out on mine. I can see the flute marks around the hole.

A ceramic detent will cut into a blade but it would take so long I feel its a non issue. The only way a ceramic ball really does damage is if it gets chipped or cracked and develops a sharp edge that will dig into the steel. I would not worry much about it. I have had ceramic detent knives and have used them for years without concern. I would look at it much like you do sharpening. Yes eventually if you keep sharpening your knife you will run out of blade at some point. But it will take so long for this to happen that by the time it does you got your moneys worth. Ceramic detents have their own lubricity and as long as they are free of chips usually glide more than they cut.

Has anyone found that these detent balls wear a path in the blade?

I've had one particular SMF for about 8 years of almost daily carry and use.

The detent ball has worn a path through the finish only. It has not affected the steel. Just a shiny path where it removed the finish, no deeper.
