I hate to admit it but I am starting to get an itch.........a Strider folder itch, the problem is I don't know crap about them. Could someone please give me a breakdown of the different models and which you would say is best ? I would prefer one of the newer models I think.

Thanks for any info.

Here is the Strider FAQ page:

Strider FAQ

I am starting to get the itch myself. The AR and SNG seem to be the most popular. I am leaning toward SMF myself.

The AR and GB are big liner-lock folders. The SnG and SMF are frame-lock designs. I carry an SMF EDC and love it. It's rock solid, looks good and seems to be bomb-proof. Check them all out, handle them and then decide which one fits you best. They are all awesome, as is the customer service. Hope that helps...

What do you want it for? What capabilities would satisfy your needs?

The AR is big and blocky. The PT or SnG or SMF have a more compact grip. I doubt the difference between the AR linerlock and the PT/SnG/SMF framelock will matter to you.

Go by the size of the blade you think you will carry and use the most. The PT is the small version, the SMF the largest.

If all you want is to spend money and have a Strider in a display case, get a custom with a weird grind.

Shootist16, thanks for the link, I plan to look these over and try to decide if I need one of these.

Esav, I have two ER-MPCs, how do you compare these to Strider ? I really would love to carry it if I buy one, but I put both of my ERs up for a while. :(

Tidefan, thanks, that helps a lot.

My EDC for the last 5 months has been a 6th Gen SNG. It is the most solid knife I have ever used. I have cut things that would have made other knives cringe. The SMF is a little bigger, but generally the same knife. The PT is the runt of the litter. A small SNG if you will. The AR/GB will simply scare the crap out of anyone who doesn't know knives. It is very big. It still will ride pretty comfortably in one of your pockets, but that is the only thing that you will be able to fit in there. You can also get kydex sheaths for them so they ride on your belt. Cutomer service is great at Strider, and they are cool to talk to. There are some other variations you can get of these folders. There is digital camoflage, and midnight camoflage. There is also something called a "Nightmare Grind" that is found on the customs they make. The regular production folders are simply the best. The customs cost a lot but are worth it. The best thing is, if you get one and don't like it, you can probably get your money back selling it here pretty fast. ;)

Robbie, my ER is a Nemesis. The Striders will definitely outcut anything ER makes, and are much better handling, and about as strong. ER being some of the few knives comparable to Strider in the strength department.

Here is one that Oilman owns. He was going to trade it at one point, but smartly kept it. You should look into one of these.

Do you guys who have dealt with Strider before generally get replies on e-mail sent to Strider?. I e-mailed them on 7 and 8 Apr (last week) - no reply yet.

Deon,
I just got a reply today for something I asked a week or so ago. I think they were at a show or something because a couple of people mentioned they couldn't get an answer from them. It should be incoming.

The AR and GB are monsters , I have an SNG and love it , I wear large glove sizes and it's about as big as I want in a folder .The lock up on mine is like a vault , the blade stock is 3/16" , the pivot could support the weight of a Ford pick up . I want a PT , I doubt I'll ever get an SMF . I'd advise you to scratch the Itch , I waited a long time and now regret it .

I never e-mail them. I just call. It is easier. I can just about promise you will love the knife if you get it. It isn't for everyone, but most people looking for a strong knife, with great asthetics will love it. Mine is the one knife I will never part with.

If I ever get one it will definately be the AR! I've handled one of the early models of this knife and it is absolutely bombproof!

Robbie, your choices would be framelocks smallest to largest, PT, SnG, SMF.
Liner locks AR (spear point), or GB (tanto ) The SnG is available in spear or tanto. The AR/GB's are large, thick knives, but they do pocket carry well in a pair of jeans. I own each of the models above and could answer specific questions about them if you need. The SnG makes a great edc in anything from shorts, to dress pants to jeans. The PT (smallest frame locker) will fit in the watch pocket of a pair of levi's or in the knife pocket of the mission wallet. They are all super strong and will probably be more knife than you would ever need. So, I'd have to suggest you pick the one that makes your heart race the fastest. You'll end up buying a few in the future anyways once you get your first. :D

Happy collecting, and scratch that dang itch.
John...

Go for it! The SnG is probably the way to go--not too big--not too small--and totally bulletproof. I have one of each (tanto and spear-point) and I'm having a ball with them. :D
